How LEGO Can Take Its Fortnite Sets to the Next Level
The first wave of physicalLEGOFortnitesetsmanaged to capture some ofFortnite’s most iconic items and characters in a charming manner. The Battle Bus was a no-brainer playset on LEGO’s end, and the other three sets make for great decorations. However, as the in-gameLEGO Fortnitemodes continue to deliver new builds for structures, vehicles, and tools, it makes one wonder why LEGO only seems intent on producing Battle Royale-inspired sets.
What LEGO Fortnite Odyssey Sets Could Look Like
LEGO Fortnite Odysseyis filled with unique builds that could make for great LEGO sets. There are distinct, brick-built characters like the Storm King inOdyssey, as well as structures and decorations that players can unlock — or purchase — for their villages.Odyssey’s Storm Chasers updatealso updated the mode’s tool system, allowing players to build and customize the new brick-built, Ninjago-esque tools piece by piece.
LEGO could easily incorporate these items and locations into sets inspired by in-gameLEGO Fortnitebuilds like Nana Hut, Tomato Temple, or Tudor Tavern. This would allow players to createOdyssey-esque villages of their own and display them alongside the other Fortnite sets that have been released. After all, the builds found inOdysseyare all created using existing LEGO bricks, meaning that they could be translated into actual sets.
Translating LEGO’s Past Success With Video Game Collaborations to Fortnite
LEGO has already seen plenty of success with sets based on video game villages.LEGO’s recentAnimal Crossingline of setshas proven to be a win, as it allows fans of the franchise to recreate their islands or create completely new ones using LEGO pieces. In the same vein, the company’sMinecraftsets have been so popular that LEGO has been able to continue releasing sets based on the game over a decade after the LEGOMinecraftline was first introduced.
Animal CrossingandMinecraft’s accomplishmentsin the LEGO aisle prove that there is an audience for sets based on social sim and survival games. Battle Royale continues to beFortnite’s most popular mode, so it makes sense as to why LEGO would opt to make Battle Royale-inspired sets. However,Odysseysets would allow for more creative freedom and would be a great way to promoteLEGO Fortnite’s in-game modes.
