Mortal Kombat 1hasn’t had the smoothest post-launch journey. Though its two Kombat Packs have added some great new fighters to the roster,Mortal Kombat 1’s post-launchperiod has also been plagued by microtransaction scandals, some underwhelming seasonal content, and a lackluster story expansion. ButMortal Kombat 1has just added something that’s managed to breathe new life into the community.

Added alongside Conan the Barbarian,Mortal Kombat 1is now home to a “secret” boss fight against a pink ninja named Floyd. This secret encounter is unlocked by completing 10 out of 37 possible challenges, all of which are randomized for each player. Upon completing 10 challenges, the player’s match will come to an abrupt end, the screen will shatter, and they’ll be teleported to the field fromMK1’s first trailer, where Floyd is waiting for them. This hidden boss fight is a really neat addition toMortal Kombat 1, and it’s a premise thatInjustice 3could embrace fully.

Injustice 3 Should Embrace Mortal Kombat’s Secret Pink Floyd Fight

Injustice 3 Could Use Secret Encounters to Reference Elseworlds Characters

Injustice 3could useMortal Kombat 1’s hidden Floyd fightas a springboard to reference a wealth of Elseworlds characters who might otherwise not have the chance to appear as fully-fledged fighters in the franchise. For instance, iconic Elseworlds variants likeGotham by Gaslight’s Batman,Red SonSuperman,Wonder Woman: Amazonia’s steampunk Wonder Woman, andJustice Riders' Wild West-themed Justice League.

These Elseworlds heroes could be hidden inInjustice 3just like Floyd was, requiring players to complete specific challenges to unlock a boss fight against each one. These challenges could even be themed around each Elseworlds story, such asGotham by Gaslight Batmanbeing unlocked by defeating all knife-wielding fighters as Batman, a reference to the comic’s Jack the Ripper-focused plot.

These hidden Elseworlds boss fights should then take players to a unique stage inspired by the comic source material. For instance,Red Son Superman’s stage could take players to a Soviet-era Moscow, or a Batman Beyond-themed stage could take players to the futuristic Neo-Gotham.

TheInjusticeseries has already dabbled in the multiverse, with the second game using it as the backdrop for challenge towers. So, including secret fights against Elseworlds variants seems like a logical addition for the series' next entry.

How Secret Encounters in Injustice 3 Could Feel Rewarding

Along with the satisfaction that comes from discovering a hidden Easter egg or reference,Injustice 3’s hypothetical Elseworlds boss encounters should reward players with a wealth of in-game unlockables, just asMortal Kombat 1’s Floyd fight does. Finding and defeating Floyd inMortal Kombat 1rewards the player with the Field-Sunset stage, a handful of Legendary pink-colored skins for Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and a few Kombat Kard backgrounds.

Defeating Elseworlds bosses inInjustice 3should offer players a similar abundance of unlockables, including skins based on the Elseworlds character, a unique stage, and some other cosmetics inspired by the variant hero or villain. In the unlikely event thatMortal Kombat 11’s unlockable movesmake a reappearance inInjustice 3, it would be neat to let characters unlock attacks inspired by these Elseworlds variants as well, such as giving Flash the ability to use a six-shooter like inJustice Riders.
