Summary
The latest free content update forNo Man’s Skyhas further enhanced the game’s dynamic water simulation and visuals, and one fan has discovered that a specific weapon can have an unbelievable effect on the game’s physics when fired into water. While many bugs have already been fixed across the various patches that have been releasedsince the launch ofNo Man’s Sky’s major Worlds Part 2 update, this particular interaction may actually be a legitimate feature rather than an error in the game’s code.
No Man’s Sky’s earlier Worlds Part 1 update, which launched during Summer last year, was the update to bring a major and desperately-needed upgrade to the game’s water, both graphically and otherwise. While water inNo Man’s Skyhad been simple, flat and, visually awkward for the extent of its life up to that point, it has seen an astonishing amount of attention from the small team at Hello Games across the past few updates. Worlds Part 1 introduced a complex system that allowed for the simulation of water ebbing and waves that react to the environment and weather, while the recent Worlds Part 2 took this further with improved water reflections, raindrop visuals on water, water reactivity to weapon fire, and much more.

While a separate update that recentlyintroduced fishing toNo Man’s Skyreduces the need to fire high-tech plasma guns into a body of water, one player experimenting with water physics did find an awesome interaction with the Neutron Cannon weapon attachment. The fan known online as Aadi_880 recently shared a demonstration of this in a clip which quickly caught the attention of many in theNo Man’s Skycommunity. When firing the Neutron Cannon into any body of water, it will cause a massive eruption of water that scales in size depending on how long the shot is charged for. If enough shots are fired, the massive waves produced can coalesce into absurdly tall tidal waves.
Worlds Part 2 Proves That No Man’s Sky’s Engine Is a Technical Masterpiece
This may just be one of the best demonstrations of the incredible simulated water physics now present in the game. With every new update, Hello Games continues to amaze with just how capableNo Man’s Sky’s nearly decade-old enginereally is. An unbelievably vast wealth of features have been added to the game since its 2016 launch, along with many visual updates to lighting, reflections, shadows, glass refractions, and more. Worlds Part 2 even overhauled the game’s entire lighting system once again, but despite how far the game’s engine has been pushed over the years,No Man’s Skylooks and runs better today than it ever has before.
No Man’s Skyis enjoying another boost in popularityat the moment thanks to the recent release of its Worlds Part 2 update, which is completely free for all players to enjoy. While the update did introduce tons of technical improvements, its main attraction is the addition of entirely new star types complete with new planets such as gas giants, ocean planets, and more.
