Summary

One Piecehas changed since its far more peaceful and simple beginnings. What is now a massive epic following the exploits of a universe full of pirates, was once a much simpler journey about a group of friends trying to survive in a dangerous world. Back then, each character’s goals and dreams inOne Pieceseemed simpler, since the audience didn’t know the true extent of how difficult it would be to make them a reality.

However, on the flip side, some goals were so simple that it seems that they’ve been completely forgotten inthe modern story ofOne Piece. This includes one of Koby’s previous goals, back during his initial introduction at the very beginning of the story, which included capturing Alvida and bringing her to justice. The question is now, has Koby completely forgotten his goal of capturing Alvida, or will he finally have the chance to take her down before the end of the story?

Koby as a kid One Piece

Koby And Alvida Are Two Of One Piece’s Earliest Characters

Although Alvida Has All But Vanished Koby Is Still Important To The Story

At the very beginning ofOne Piece, Koby accidentally finds his way onto a pirate ship that he thought was a fishing boat, unintentionally forcing him to become one of Alvida’s subordinates. However, the futureOne PieceMarine, Koby, never wanted to become a pirate and instead dreamed of joining the Navy and eventually becoming an Admiral there. On Alvida’s ship, Koby met Luffy, who quickly defeated Alvida and freed Koby, allowing him to officially pursue his dreams of joining the Navy.

I’ll join the Navy, and then I’ll capture Alvida. - Koby

However, Koby has also claimed that he wants to officially capture Alvida and bring her to justice. Currently, Luffy’s first antagonist of the series is still at large, now withan interestingOne PieceDevil Fruitand a high-ranking position in Buggy’s crew. Although it seems she hasn’t gotten much stronger since the last time the audience saw her in Loguetown, she now has the resources and influence of an Emperor’s crew, meaning she may be much harder to catch.

Koby May Have Forgotten His Goal To Capture Alvida In One Piece

He May Not Even Know She’s Still An Active Pirate

With all that being said, as it currently stands inOne Piece, it seems that Koby has completely forgotten about his goal to capturethe forgottenOne Piececharacter, Alvida. Since his declaration was before Luffy defeated her, it makes sense that Koby assumed that moment was her being brought to justice. Additionally, although she returned to the story at Loguetown, thanks to her Devil Fruit, the Smooth-Smooth Fruit, she looks completely unrecognizable, so Koby may not even know she’s still an active pirate.

Additionally, while Alvida was a strong opponent back inthe early days ofOne Piece, Koby has far surpassed her level in the current story. While a fight between the two would be a good reference to the early days of the series, it would be extremely one-sided, with Koby easily besting the pirate. Outside of a small callback, this fight wouldn’t be very interesting, unless Alvida was doing enough training to make her one of the strongest characters in One Piece.

One Piece Loves To Bring Plots Full Circle

Reuniting Alvida And Koby Fells Like Something That One Piece Would Do

With that being said,One Piecedoes tend to bring plot points full circle, evensmall details that fans have missedearly in the series. While a full-on fight and a serious mission to capture Alvida is off the table, if the Cross Guild ever comes into direct conflict with the Navy, a small interaction between Koby and Alvida would be nice to see. Additionally, since neither Koby nor Alvida looks anything like they used to at the beginning of One Piece, it would be funny to see a gag about the two not recognizing one another.

You can’t just blame your fate on other people all the time and expect them to solve everything. - Koby

While Koby is generally a person who sticks to his words, it seems likely thatOne Piece’sfuture high-ranking Navy soldiermost likely forgot about Alvida, or assumed she was defeated back in the beginning of the story. AlthoughOne Pieceis great at tying up loose ends, characters make vague declarations all the time that generally don’t amount to much. However, if Alvida and Koby were to reunite before the end ofOne Piece, it may provide a funny scene between two ofOne Piece’searliest characters.
