One Piece, as a series, can make the audience fall in love with characters they didn’t initially think they would. From the heart-wrenching tale of Bon Clay, a former enemy turned close ally of the Straw Hats, and his incredible sacrifice, to the complete transformation that Koby underwent to become a hero in the Navy,One Piececharacters have a way of surprising the audience, no matter how they look on the outside. In many ways, this is one of the most appealing and heartwarming lessons thatOne Piecehas taught its fans to this day.
However, one character that falls into a similar boat as Bon Clay, may not deserve the massive amounts of love that theOne Piecefan base gives him. Señor Pink, a member of the Donquixote Pirates andantagonist of the Dressrosa Arc, won fans over with an incredibly tragic, yet moving, backstory, leading to the character reaching a legendary status in the community. Despite this, some fans believe that Señor Pink isn’t as sympathetic as fans may initially think and shouldn’t be held in high regard.

Pink Has A Very Emotional Backstory In One Piece
The Backstory Has Made Many Fans Fall For The Character
DuringOne Piece’sDressrosa Arc, the series introduces the audience to Señor Pink, a strangemember of Doflamingo’s Donquixote Pirateswho dresses in a baby outfit. Despite his outfit, Señor Pink acts extremely cool and composed, with many people commenting on how “hard-boiled” he is. Although he has a bit of an indecent side, acting fairly rude and self-absorbed, he also seems to act fairly compassionately towards his allies. Overall, despite being a bit odd-looking and rude at first, Señor Pink is incredibly loyal and a decently honorable person. However, during his fight with the Straw Hat shipwright Franky, more information about his past is revealed, detailing some tragic details about his life.
This never would have happened if you hadn’t met me… - Pink to Russian

While operating under the Donquixote Pirates, beforethe events of the story ofOne Piece,Pink met a woman, named Russian, who he fell in love and had a child with. Despite caring for her very much, he kept his life as a pirate secret from her and stuck with the Donquixote Pirates out of loyalty to his crew. After their son died from an illness, Russian learned of Señor Pink’s life as a pirate and ran away from him, only to be caught in an accident and fall into a vegetative state. From there, while visiting her, Pink began wearing a baby outfit as it was the only thing that made his wife smile in this state, and continued wearing the outfit, despite being frequently insulted by strangers.
Some Fans Feel Pink Deserves More Hate
They Feel He Ruined His Chances With His Family
However, while many fans sympathize withSeñor Pink’s backstory inOne Piece, others feel that he acted incredibly foolishly and deserved the consequences he faced. Firstly, many fans believe that lying to his wife and family was his largest offense. While it would have been difficult for him if he truly loved Russian, some members of theOne Piececommunity believe he should have abandoned his life as a pirate, or at the very least been honest about his life, and focused on his family instead.
At the same time, many find his treatment of women bySeñor Pink inOne Pieceand his rude attitude to be inexcusable. Even after the loss of his family, rather than becoming a good person for them, he continues in his evil pirate ways, rather than doing something good in Russian’s memory. In many ways, a traumatic backstory like Señor Pink’s would be fuel to change his life for the better.

Pink Is A Well Rounded Character In One Piece
His Flaws Make Him more Interesting
Still, Señor Pink is one ofOne Piece’sbest villain. He isn’t supposed to be a morally righteous or responsible person who always makes the right decisions. Señor Pink is allowed to make mistakes and have negative personality traits, just like any other character in the series. Plus, his sympathetic backstory isn’t meant to absolve him from his crimes, but rather explain his strange way of living life.
If we should cross paths again let’s share some drinks, and you can tell me about the woman named “Russian.” - Franky
In the end, while he has done some bad things, Señor Pink deserves the love he gets fromtheOne Piececommunity. While he isn’t perfect, he is a strong example of a multi-faceted character, that who, despite having a sympathetic backstory and a sense of honor, still feels like a villain. Overall, the amount of split opinions surroundingOne Piece’sSeñor Pink is a testament to how great the character is.
