Summary

When it comes to pirate crews inOne Piece, often, an entire crew is represented by one or two important figures, with the much smaller characters taking a backseat. While a crew may be full of hundreds of members, only a handful of those characters are strong enough to have a significant place in the story overall. Due to this, although a crew may be fairly strong, it can look weak compared to some ofOne Piece’smore fleshed-out crews.

A character to whom this principle applies is the Surgeon of Death himself, Law. Despite being incredibly powerful on his own, many fans have noticed that theOne Piecesurgeon’s crew is lacking in terms of firepower. With only one or two strong members besides himself, some members of theOne Piececommunity believe that Law’s crew is incredibly weak and is only carried by their captain andthe Op-Op Fruit.

The Heart Pirates Have Been An Important Crew In One Piece

The Crew Assisted Luffy In Taking Down Kaido And Doffy

The Heart Pirates are a group of rookie pirates inOne Pieceunder the control of their captain, Trafalgar Water D. Law. Hailing from the North Blue, these pirates have become incredibly notorious in the eyes of the World Government, especially after allying with the Straw Hats and taking out notable figures such asthe former Emperor, Kaido, and Doflamingo. However, the Heart Pirates, outside of Law, didn’t contribute too much to the actual battles of these events, mainly leaving the heavy lifting to their captain.

The crew itself consists of Law, the user of the Op-Op Fruit, as a captain, Bepo, his first mate, and Jean-Bart, a former slave that the crew picked up onOne Piece’sSabaody Archipelago. Other important members of the crew include Penguin and Shachi, who are long-time friends of Law, and founding members of the crew, alongside Law and Bepo. Outside of these figures, while the crew has other members, most of these characters are either unnamed or largely unimportant to the overall dynamic of the crew.

The Heart Pirates Are A Decently Strong One Piece Crew

Bepo Holds A Lot Of The Crew’s Raw Power

Firstly, without the Law himself, the Heart Pirates are fairly strong. This is mainly due to the fact that Bepo, although he may seem goofy at first, is incredibly powerful, especially in his Sulong form. At one point, Bepo held off three ofOne Piece’sBlackbeard Pirates, including Blackbeard himself, all while saving Law. While he wasn’t able to hold this form for long, holding back an Emperor of the Sea and his crew shows the incredible amount of power Bepo has.

However, outside of Bepo, it seems many ofthe Heart Pirates inOne Piecelack raw power. Although Jean Bart holds a fair amount of strength, he has only used it a few times in the series. Penguin and Shachi suffer from a similar fate, as they are relegated to more goofy roles and don’t have many opportunities to demonstrate their abilities. Despite these characters being presented as decently powerful, due to their lack of feats and, in the case of Penguin and Shachi, goofy personalities, many fans view them as incredibly weak.

The Heart Pirates Have Other Stengths Outside Of Physical Combat

The Crew Demonstrates Excellent Naval Skills

The Heart Pirates do have a few strengths over other pirate crews that aren’t connected to physical power. Mainly, being fromOne Piece’sNorth Blue, the crew excels in naval battles, specifically those taking place under the sea. Using their submarine, the Polar Tang, the crew can keep up with much more powerful pirates by using the sea to their advantage.

Don’t mess with folks born and raised in a frigid North Blue port! You won’t get the best of us in a sea battle! - Shachi

Sadly, even with this advantage, outside of a few notable members, liketheOne PieceMinx, Bepo, and Law himself, the Heart Pirates may be one of the weaker, yet still important, pirate crews in the series. Although the crew has some strategic advantages over their opponents, their lack of raw strength may be one of the reasons they ended up losing to the Blackbeard Pirates. In the end, not every captain can have an incredibly well-balanced crew likeOne Piece’sLuffy or Shanks. However, the fate of Law and his crew shows how important having a powerful crew overall may be.
