Summary

Oftentimes, throughout the story ofOne Piece, certain side characters are overshadowed by the community’s favorites. While this isn’t a bad thing, it is sad to see some excellent side characters sidelined in the eyes of fans because they lack the physical prowess to keep up with some ofOne Piece’smost iconic characters. These characters, who often take on supporting roles rather than being main fighters, like Nami or Usopp, are incredibly important toOne Pieceoverall, despite not always getting the recognition they deserve.

However, one character who falls into this boat is Galdino, aka Mr. 3 of the Baroque Works, fromOne Piece’sLittle Garden Arc. Despite initially starting as a main antagonist, Mr. 3 was an early example of how wit and planning are a means of overcoming much stronger opponents. Even after his defeat, Mr. 3 continued to be useful, landing himself a position in one ofOne Piece’sstrongest pirate crews. Due to his strong supporting role in many ofOne Piece’sbest arcs, and his cunning, Mr. 3 deserves more credit than some fans give him.

Dorry and Brogy (1)

Galdino Has Been Around For A Long Time In One Piece

From An Enemy To A Begrudging Ally

Mr. 3 was introduced duringOne Piece’sAlabasta Saga where he met the Straw Hats on the island of Little Garden. There, he found the former captains ofthe Giant Pirates, Dorry and Brogy, who he attempted to capture to cash in their massive bounty. Although he was close to defeating them, as well as most of the Straw Hat Crew, he was eventually defeated by Luffy. Although Crocodile then sent Bon Clay to eliminate him after his failure, this didn’t mark the end of Mr. 3’s story.

From here, after narrowly surviving the Alabasta Arc, Mr. 3 made his return to the story duringOne Piece’sImpel Down Arc, begrudgingly helping Luffy during his mission to free Ace. His usefulness also continued into Marineford, where he became allied with Buggy, and was a very useful part of Luffy’s main goal to save Ace from execution. Finally, afterOne Piece’sParamount War, Mr. 3 was taken in by Buggy’s thriving crew, eventually becoming an important part of the Cross Guild.

Mr. 3 Is A Strong Supporting Character In The Series

Galdino Thrives On Plans And Supporting Powerful individuals

Throughout the story, despite being amain antagonist inOne Piecebriefly, Mr. 3 has always felt like a supporting character. Lacking the power to accomplish things himself, by utilizing complex plans and the power ofOne Piece’sWax-Wax Fruit, Mr. 3 has always been far better off when it comes to supporting stronger characters. However, despite this, on his own, Mr. 3 isn’t completely helpless.

During Little Garden, Mr. 3 was able to enact his plan, tricking Dorry into drinking explosive alcohol, leading to him being wounded by Brogy. After this, he was able to subdue and capture Brogy, a pirate with a bounty, as revealed inOne Piece’sEgghead Arc, of well over 1 billion Berries. While this may be a product ofOne Piece’spower scaling in the later parts of the series, in many ways, it shows off how threatening a weak character with a proper plan can be inOne Piece.

Mr. 3 Has Plenty Of Clutch Moments In One Piece

He Was A Huge Part Of Impel Down And Marineford

Even after his brief stint as a main antagonist inOne Piece, Mr. 3 has shown that the Wax-Wax Fruit is a power far better than many fans expect. Between holding backthe Impel Down Warden, Magellen’s, poison and allowing Luffy to attack the Warden himself directly, Mr. 3’s creative uses of his power have made for some of the most interesting support abilities inOne Pieceso far. Additionally, Mr. 3 nearly saving Ace’s life from execution was one of the best moments of Marineford, though there are many great moments in that arc.

I am here to fulfill the final wish of my lost comrade. Would you laugh at me, hmmm?! - Galdino

While Mr. 3 himself has a fan base who enjoys him, he is a heavily underratedsupporting character inOne Piece. Despite taking the sidelines in many fights, and often being relegated to comedic relief, Mr. 3 has proven to be a strong ally to whoever’s side he’s on. Although he isn’t the strongest character inOne Piece, at the very least, Mr. 3 deserves more credit.
