A New Chapter Introduces Another Amazing One
Through the miraculous science of theOne Piececharacter, Vegapunk developed a way to feed a Devil Fruit to an inanimate object. Specifically, by feeding something a Zoan Devil Fruit, it fundamentally brings the object to life, giving the weapon a mind of its own and various Zoan abilities. Although fans don’t know directly how this happens, many are convinced that this has to do with Vegapunk’s research onOne Piece’sLineage Factor.

So far, only three weapons have been given Devil Fruits in the canon series ofOne Piece, although more inanimate objects have been given Devil Fruits. While this concept has only been used three times throughout the canon series ofOne Piece, giving a weapon a Devil Fruit is something that should be explored more. This concept provides an interesting way for characters to utilize Devil Fruit-like abilities, without becoming Devil Fruit users themselves. Additionally, it opens a whole new world of creative attacks that utilize the advantages of having a living weapon, such as whenShanks’s twin inOne Piece,Shamrock, issues specific commands to his weapon when attacking Loki. Although this may be too much, maybe each non-Devil Fruit user of the Holy Knights possesses a weapon similar to Cerberus, to make up for their lack of powers.
At the same time, while it makes sense that only Zoan Devil Fruits inOne Piecehave been fed to inanimate objects, since it gives them some level of sentience, it would also be interesting to see the effect that other Devil Fruits have on weapons. Although it may be unlikely, it is possible that feeding something likeOne Piece’sIce-Ice Fruitto a sword would make a weapon that freezes anything it touches and is impossible to break. However, due to the complications that may arise in trying to logically apply the powers of Paramecia and Logia Devil Fruits to weapons, it makes sense why Oda decided to leave them out.

Still, the only downside of introducing more is that it takes away from the allure of having so fewweapons with Devil Fruits inOne Piece. If weapons with Devil Fruits become oversaturated, they may not feel as unique and interesting as they once were. Similarly, if all the questions and mysteries surrounding weapons with Devil Fruits are answered, fans may become bored with the concept.

In the end, despite the potential downsides, it would be interesting to see a few more weapons with Devil Fruits introduced beforethe end ofOne Piece. There are plenty of unexplored ideas about these weapons, including the use of other kinds of Devil Fruits and more. With the introduction of Cerberus toOne Piece, at the very least, Oda reminds fans that weapons with Devil Fruits are not a forgotten concept.
