Throughout the history of theOne Pieceworld, many legendary pirate crews have sailed the seas of the Grand Line. Out of all of these groups, none are more mysterious than Joy Boy and his crew. With only three confirmed members so far, little is known about the crew itself, with readers simply having to guess just who may be among the ranks of Joy Boy’s crew inOne Piece.
From here, plenty ofOne Piecefan theorieshave surfaced, attempting to propose potential answers to this long-standing question. With such bizarre creatures already confirmed to be a past part of Joy Boy’s crew, it seems like anything is on the table. This includes the pirate Binks, who is well known for being a part of an iconic song in theOne Pieceuniverse.

Only A Few Members Of Joy Boy’s Crew Have Been Revealed In One Piece
The Elephant Zunesha And The Robot Emet Are His Allies
So far in the series, only two characters have been directly stated to be a part of Joy Boy’s crew. First,One Piece’smassive elephant Zunesha, who wades through the ocean with Zou on his back, was once an ally of Joy Boy that failed him in some way. Second, Joy Boy’s other known ally in the series is Emet, the giant robot fromOne Piece’sEgghead Island Arc. Although, once again, this robot stated he failed Joy Boy in some way as well.
Following the sea breeze! Riding on the waves! - A lyric from Binks' Booze

As for Bink, the figure has only appeared in the iconicOne Piecesong, “Binks' Booze,” a jaunty tune that is a favorite ofBrook, the Straw Hat musician. InOne Piece, this song is often only known by older pirates, such as Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates, who sing it frequently in times of hardship to lift spirits. ThisOne Piecesong is ancient enough that it predates even characters like Roger, and the Great Pirate Era itself.
The Ancient Pirate Binks May Fit Joy Boy’s Crew
Binks May Have Been A Legendary Pirate Erased By The World Government
With the song being so incredibly old, it makes sense thatthe mysteriousOne Piececharacter, Binks, is most likely from an ancient era. With mostly older pirates loving the song, and being the only ones who recognize it, it seems like an entity, like the World Government, may have tried to erase this song from history. This would leave only a few characters to be able to pass the song on to future generations, like the true meaning ofOne Piece’sWill of D.
From here, it would make sense that if a legendary pirate, similar toOne Piece’sJoy Boy, were to be removed from history, the character would have to be fairly important inOne Piece. It seems possible that Binks, the extremely cheery pirate from a song about having a nice time on the open seas, was the musician on Joy Boy’s crew. Overall, the mood of the song fits perfectly with the tone of a goofy and fun-loving figure like Joy Boy.

Binks Echos Brook In Luffy’s Crew In One Piece
Both May Have Been The Musicians Of This Respective Crew
Plus, when Luffy, a character who is the spitting image of One Piece’s Joy Boy, asks Brook to join the crew, the skeleton is playing this Binks' song. If Zunesha represents Joy Boy’s version ofthe Straw Hat doctor, Chopper, the animal of the crew, and Emet is supposed to represent Joy Boy’s version of Franky, the robot, it makes sense that Binks could have been Joy Boy’s version of Brook, a musician. Additionally, a figure like Binks could have even been the original user of Brook’s Revive-Revive Fruit.
Never-Ending, Ever-wandering, Our funny traveling tale! - A lyric from Binks' Booze
While there isn’t much evidence to support this theory, an ancient figure such as Binks would be a perfect fit forJoy Boy’s crew inOne Piece. Although he is a bit more normal than the massive creatures that comprise Joy Boy’s crew so far, between Binks' ancient notoriety and his potential resemblance to Brook, the happy-go-lucky pirate may have been more than just the subject of a song. However, at the same time, since there is so little evidence, it’s just as likely that Binks himself is a fictional character made up entirely for the song. Either way, it’s interesting to think about how one ofOne Piece’smost iconic songs fits into the overall world of the story.
