Logia Devil Fruits inOne Piecehas always been some of the most interesting in the series. Their unique ability to manipulate the elements and warp the user’s body has always created some of the most intimidating enemies in the series. Although sometimes abilities like Haki and Mythical Zoan Fruits seem to overshadow Logia Fruits a bit, especially towards the end ofOne Piece, they remain as one of the rarest and strongest powers a character can have.
However, some fruits seem like they should be Logia Devil Fruits, yet lack a specific quality, preventing them from joining their ranks. These nearly-Logia Devil Fruits present an interesting case, showing off a strange level of specificity for what constitutes a Logia Devil Fruit. Although there are some rules as to what can and can’t be aLogia Devil Fruit inOne Piece, at times it seems like these abilities are far too specific.

Logia Devil Fruits In One Piece Are Oddly Specific In Their Classification
Yet They Still Include Some Bizarre Elements
At their core, Logia Devil Fruits give their users the ability to both transform their body into, control and create a certain element of nature. Examples of this include things like fire, ice, magma, and smoke. Due to the large amounts of the elements that they can create, as well as the intangibility granted from having a body composed of a certain element, these Devil Fruits, likeAkainu’s Magma-Magma Fruit, are considered to be the strongest in the series.

However, at the same time, there are a few Logia Devil Fruits that cover strange elements that aren’t immediately obvious. Some strange Logia Devil Fruits, include Caribou’s Swamp-Swamp Fruit, giving him control of mud, orKarasu’s Soot-Soot Fruit, which allows him to control soot at will. While these are technically elements of nature, they are a bit more bizarre than the go-to examples of things like fire.
Some Fruits Seem Like They Should Be Logia Devil Fruits
One Small Elements Makes These Fruits Paramecia Type
Still, despite having some odder elements that are considered to be Logia Devil Fruits, there are a few fruits that seem like they should be considered Logia Devil Fruits that are not. Firstly, Trebol’s Sticky-Sticky Fruit, despite exhibiting many of the qualities of a Logia Fruit, technically isn’t considered to be one. A similar case happened withKatakuri’s Devil Fruit, the Mochi-Mochi Fruit, which was categorized as a Logia Fruit during its initial introduction. However, it was retconned to be a Special Paramecia Fruit because it gave Katakuri control over an artificial element, Mochi, and not a natural element.
Out of the many Devil Fruits thatOne Piecehas, it seems like these kinds of fruits would be Logia Fruits if it wasn’t for how oddly specific the definition ofOne PieceLogia Fruitis. Trebol’s Sticky-Sticky Fruit, despite giving the user the ability to control and generate the natural element of mucus, technically cannot manipulate its body like a Logia Fruit. What’s even stranger is that at multiple points in the series, Trebol is shown manipulating his body, splitting into multiple parts, something that should make him a Logia Fruit user.

If These Non-Canon Fruits Are Logia Types Katakuri’s Fruit Should Be As Well
Katakuri, the first commander ofOne Piece’sBig Mom Pirates, also falls into a similar category, where the sole fact that his Devil Fruit isn’t a natural element prevents him from being a Logia Fruit user. This is especially strange since some non-canon characters have official Logia Fruits that transform them into artificial elements, namely Gasparde with the Candy-Candy Fruit. Although it’s interesting to see a unique Devil Fruit like the Mochi-Mochi Fruit receive its special category, it would have made just as much sense if it were to be categorized as a Logia Fruit as well.

In the end, the specificity ofLogia Fruits inOne Pieceseems a bit odd in certain cases, allowing leeway for some abilities, while strictly locking out others from joining their ranks. While changing the Sticky-Sticky Fruit or the Mochi-Mochi Fruit to Logia Fruits wouldn’t change much, seeing those two abilities among the other Logia Fruits wouldn’t be too jarring for the audience. However, on the other hand, keeping the ranks of Logia Fruits trim helps the abilities feel especially elite and powerful in the world ofOne Piece.
