Now that theSwitch 2has been officially revealed, the majority of Nintendo fans' attention has turned toward looking ahead at what titles could potentially be launching with the new console. Although Nintendo undoubtedly has big plans for theSwitch 2’s launch library, it seems that support for the current Switch is not yet over, with several more months to come before the new console is likely to even be released. However, one title that has been rumored to be in the works for some time could be the perfect game to fill this gap in Nintendo’s release schedule ahead of the Switch 2’s launch.
Rumors suggest a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for February that would detail the games coming to the Switch before the Switch 2’s launch.

Since before the release ofFire Emblem Engage, there have been rumors suggesting that a remake ofFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy Waris in development. Originally, this project wasleaked in 2022 alongside screenshots ofFire Emblem Engagemonths before the game was officially announced, yet theGenealogy of the Holy Warremake has yet to manifest in the time since then. If this project was indeed in development at the time it was leaked, it would make sense to see it released sooner rather than later, especially with the Switch in need of some games to close out its life before the Switch 2 launches.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy Waris the next game in the series due for a remake since the first three games in the series have already received this treatment. The timing of the remakes tends to follow an interesting pattern that puts them near the tail end of the lifespan of the console they are released on.Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentiaeven released on the 3DSafter the Switch had already launched, showing a clear trend of puttingFire Emblemremakes out as some of the final games on a Nintendo console.
The originalFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy Warwas released for Super Famicomon June 21, 2025, just one month before the N64 was released, so it would be fitting for its remake to follow a similar pattern on the Switch.
A Fire Emblem Remake on Switch Would Complete a Recent Series Pattern
A remake ofGenealogy of the Holy Warseems inevitable after the game’sprotagonist, Sigurd, played a prominent role inFire Emblem Engage, and remaking it to close out the Switch’s life would follow a recent franchise trend. The 3DS was home to two brand-new mainlineFire Emblemgames—Fire Emblem AwakeningandFire Emblem Fates—and one remake withFire Emblem Echoes. The Switch has currently seen two mainlineFire Emblemgames—Fire Emblem: Three HousesandFire Emblem Engage—so adding aGenealogy of the Holy Warremake at the end of the console’s life would set it up to follow the same pattern set by the 3DS.
According to a recent leak, theSwitch may still be getting one more big gamefrom a beloved, but somewhat niche franchise. If this is true, aFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy Warremake would fit that criteria and make for an exciting release to close the book on the Switch’s library ahead of the Switch 2’s release.
