Summary
Overwatch 2has officially confirmed that Jade weapons will be sticking around in Season 15 after all. Though it originally planned to permanently retire the 2024 Competitive Play weapon cosmetics fromOverwatch 2in the upcoming update, Blizzard reversed its decision in response to fan feedback.
Last year,Overwatch 2introduced Jade Weapons, the first new type of Weapon Variant added in the sequel. In many ways an evolution of the still-available Golden Weapons from the originalOverwatch, these cosmetics could be purchased with 3,000 Competitive Points, earned through Competitive Play. However, in arecentOverwatch 2Director’s Take, Blizzard revealed players would no longer be able to unlock Jade Weapons once Season 15 started on February 18.

Now,Overwatch 2has gone back on that decision due to public outcry. Now long after the blog was published,Overwatch 2game director Aaron Keller made a post on Twitter indicating that Jade Weapons would no longer be removed from the game.Overwatch 2initially wanted to keep these cosmetics as an exclusive reward from the Competitive year, but fans made it clear they did not like the idea of Jade Weapons going away, leading Blizzard to change its mind.
Jade Weapons are Staying in Overwatch 2
Once Season 15 arrives inOverwatch 2, fans will hopefully be able to purchase Jade Weapons with Legacy and Competitive Points. However, Keller admitted the decision was made late in development for the new season, so Jade Weapons may not be re-implemented at the launch of Season 15. However, he anticipates the cosmetics will definitely return no later than theOverwatch 2mid-Season 15 patch, likely in mid-to-late March.
At the moment, it is unclear iffutureOverwatch 2heroeswill get Jade Weapons. When asked if Blizzard would make these Weapon Variants for new characters, Keller revealed he had not considered that implication before deciding to keep them. Golden Weapons have been developed for every hero that has been released inOverwatch 2, but it remains to be seen if Blizzard will do the same with Jade Weapons and whatever replaces them in future seasons.
The new Competitive Weapon Variant coming in Season 15 is still shrouded in mystery, but Keller said it would have a “higher end look to it,” describing it as “pretty spectacular” and “out of this world.” Judging from the description, it seems like these cosmetics will be more than a simple metallic-plated recolor, and the last clue makes it seem like they may have a cosmic or celestial theme. Players will likely find out exactly what these new Weapon Variants are inOverwatch 2’s upcoming Spotlight event on February 12.
