Summary
Grinding Gear Games co-founder andPath of Exiledirector Jonathan Rogers has apologized to fans of the first game while announcing yet another delay of update 3.26. GGG has been tied up with the development and release ofPoE 2, which has made it difficult to continue the development ofPath of Exile 1.
Path of Exile 2had a long development process, evolving frombeing just an update forPoE 1to becoming a full sequel. When it finally launched, the developer delivered on its promise of bringing a revampedPoEexperience to players with better graphics and mechanics. However, the game is still in early access, which means GGG is working tirelessly to address player feedback as it brings the game closer to its final form. These efforts have led GGG to reallocate resources that were initially meant forPoE 1to its sequel, delaying upcoming content for the first game.

Director Jonathan Rogers shared a video apologizing toPath of Exilefans as he announced a delay of update 3.26 untilPoE 2patch 0.2.0 is launched. Rogers acknowledged GGG’s commitment to continuing the development ofPoE 1expansions, though he confessed it has been challenging for the studio to deliver on that promise. According to Rogers, the issue beganafterPath of Exile: Settlers of Kalguurin July 2024, when the team thought the ideal release date for update 3.26 was October. However, with the release ofPoE 2early access, things became more complicated, and the team ultimately decided to push update 3.26 to February.
GGG to Begin Work on Update 3.26 After PoE Patch 0.2.0
However, as explained by Rogers, releasing the update in February was not the “official” plan, but rather a desire of the studio that had been communicated to a few people. Because of this, the community began expecting a February release, andplayers started to grow impatient aboutPath of Exile 1newsas February approached.
We still have a lot to learn about how to run two games simultaneously.
Rogers commented on the amount of workthatPath of Exile 2’s endgamerequired and how this was the main reason the studio had to reallocatePoE 1resources. AfterPoE 2early access was released, GGG had to address all the problems and feedback that arose, which further prevented the team from continuing work onPoE 1. “We still have a lot to learn about how to run two games simultaneously,” Rogers admitted.
The director confessed that the studio’s main priority is to getPoE 2to a point where it doesn’t have major issues, meaning GGG won’t start working on update 3.26 untilPoE 2patch 0.2.0 is released. Even though this might sound like bad news forPoE 1fans, Rogers reassured them of GGG’s commitment to delivering it as soon as possible and confirmed that the team would slowly begin working on the update’s pre-production.
