Summary
APokemonfan artist took to social media to share a Past Paradox form of Staryu with Ice as its main type instead of Water. ThePokemonfan artist posted their handiwork to their peers and received comments about the design and name of their icy Paradox Pokemon creation.
Known as the Star Shape Pokemon, Staryu first appeared inPokemon Red and Blue. Staryu evolves into Starmie after exposure to a Water Stone and gains the Psychic type to go with its base Water typing. Staryu is also one of the two main Pokemon used by Kanto’s Water-type Gym Leader, Misty, across multiplePokemongames. In battle, Staryu is a fast Pokemon with a high base Speed stat that can use moves like Water Gun, Scald, and Rapid Spin. Despite their popularity withPokemontrainers, Staryu and Starmie are among the handful ofcreatures that cannot be obtained inPokemon Scarlet and Violetat all.

AlthoughStaryu and Starmie were changed to different types via fan artbefore, onePokemontrainer gave Staryu a prehistoric makeover. On the r/pokemon subreddit, a Redditor named Matratzfratz shared their Ice-type, Past Paradox concept of Staryu. Matratzfratz dubbed their latest work Glacial Star, which fits the naming convention of Past Paradox Pokemon found inPokemon Scarlet. Glacial Star had a royal blue crystal in the center of its body, with a light blue Staryu shape as the outline. Icy, crystalline limbs were also drawn from the center of Glacial Star and outward, giving it the shape of a snowflake. Five small, floating crystals were also added around Glacial Star’s Body. In a text description for the art piece, Glacial Star was said to be a Past Paradox ancestor of Staryu and Starmie that lived during the Ice Age.
Pokemon Fan Artist Designs Ice-Type Past Paradox Staryu Concept
Given its status as a Past Paradox Pokemon, Glacial Star would likely have the Protosynthesis ability that could bolster its stats via using a Booster Energy held item or the sunlight weather effect. As apure Ice-type Pokemon, Glacial Star would face uphill battles. Despite being useful against Dragon and Flying Pokemon like Dragonite and Rayquaza, Ice Pokemon are weak to Fire, Rock, Fighting, and Steel attacks, all of which are commonly used in competitive battles inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
OtherPokemontrainers chimed in with their thoughts about Glacial Star’s name and design, with one stating its similarities to Cryogonal. WithPokemon Legends: Z-Aslated to arrive in 2025, it remains to be seen if Staryu and Starmie will return in the upcoming title.
