Summary
An artisticPokemonfan has shared a new piece of original artwork that tries to place a link between two very different Pokemon. Specifically, this four-panel comic provides an interestingPokemonfan theory that speculates there may be more in common between Brambleghast and Dhelmise than meets the eye.
Both of theseGhost-type Pokemonare relatively new given the franchise’s longevity, with the Sea Creeper Pokemon Dhelmise making its debut inPokemon Sun and Moonand the Tumbleweed Pokemon Brambleghast first appearing in the newest pair of mainline games,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While they share a nearly identical typing, with Brambleghast’s Grass/Ghost and Dhelmise’s Ghost/Grass, they also come from two different worlds, with one looking right at home rolling along dusty plains and the other resting on the ocean floor.

ButPokemonfan and Reddit user yosh1221 has used their artistic eye to pick out some similarities between the two that may not stand out to others, such as their general shape and the color of their eyes. With this in mind, the artist has created a four-panel comic that showsodd-looking Pokemon Brambleghastleaving the world above water and rolling down into the sea. Encountering a ship’s anchor, the object that serves as the basis for Dhelmise, it seemingly wraps itself around the huge iron object, effectively fusing with it and becoming a Dhelmise.
Pokemon Fan Theory Says Dhelmise and Brambleghast are the Same Pokemon
This artist based their theory around a relatively recent development in the franchise.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetintroduced convergent speciesin 2022, using the theory of convergent evolution to result in Pokemon of completely different species developing similar body structures. This concept was first revealed in an official documentary-style video that introduced Wiglett, a long white garden eel that looks similar to Diglett. This classification of Pokemon differs from the franchise’s regional forms, like Galarian Meowth, which is the same species as Meowth from other regions but has differing physical attributes and evolutions.
While it may not fit into the games' canon, a lot of fans seem to be on board with the artist’s theory. The game and anime franchise has a touchy history involving fans rallying againstinanimate object Pokemon, and while Dhelmise does have an organic component in the haunted seaweed wrapped around the anchor, the anchor itself still serves as a base that it clings to wherever it goes. Other fans have pointed out some potential flaws in the artist’s logic, pointing out that seaweed and tumbleweed are two completely different types of plant.
