The globalPokemon GOTour: Unova event will be held in March, and before the Unova event begins, players have the opportunity to bring new Pokemon into their collection during Lunar New Year.

ThePokemon GOLunar New Year will be held from Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, Jul 04, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. According to Niantic, players will have an increased chance to get Lucky Pokemon in trades during the Lunar New Year event, and there’s a greater chance tobecome Lucky Friends inPokemon GO, which also increases the odds of obtaining Lucky Pokemon. While searching for Pokemon in the wild, players will encounter Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini more frequently, with an increased chance to encounter Shiny variants of the featured Pokemon. In addition, Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs while the event is live.
Niantic Reveals Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2025 Event Dates and Content
Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks will be available alongside Routes, with Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-themed Pokemon as rewards.Pokemon GOplayers can get Zygarde Cellsby participating in Routes during the event. Those wanting to earn even more rewards may purchase the event-exclusive Paid Timed Research for $2 to receive two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. All the Field Research and Timed Research rewards must be claimed before February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time, so players are encouraged to redeem their rewards right after completing their tasks.
Players can enter their Lunar New Year Pokemon inPokemon GO’sPokeStop Showcasesto receive more rewards based on the showcase’s results, including item bundles. Lastly, Niantic confirmed that an event-themed Collection Challenge will be available, and completing the challenge grants more Stardust for trading. As a result, frequent traders should benefit greatly from participating in the Lunar New Year event later this month.
