Summary
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pockethas unveiled its next expansion, called Space-Time Smackdown. This will be the third card set to make its way toPokemon TCG Pocketsince its release.
The popular mobile game debuted in late October 2024 with the Genetic Apex card expansion, which consisted of 286 cards. Developer DeNA thenadded the Mythical Island set toPokemon TCG Pocketin mid-December 2024, introducing another 86 cards.

On January 23, DeNA revealed the game’s third-ever expansion, Space-Time Smackdown. The company’s announcement confirmed one earlier leak claiming that the nextPokemon TCG Pocketexpansion will be focused on Generation 4 mons. Sure enough, Space-Time Smackdown’s reveal trailer featured Gen 4 legendaries Dialga and Palkia front and center, revealing them as the faces of the upcoming expansion’s two themed booster packs. Each of the two legendaries will also get an Ex card in the new set.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown Coming on January 29
The expansion’s announcement trailer revealed Space-Time Smackdown’s release date as January 29. The new set is hence on course to debut less than six weeks following the arrival of Mythical Island. Since Space-Time Smackdown features two booster packs, it’s likely it will introduce morePokemon TCG Pocketcardsthan the single-pack Mythical Island, but still fewer than the three-pack Genetic Apex set. In other words, the expansion could comprise around 160–170 cards in total.
The set’s trailer only revealed a handful of cards coming in the expansion, including Dialga Ex, Palkia Ex, Cresselia, and Gible.Generation 4 starter Pokemonwere also showcased during the video, as was a Cynthia trainer card. Of those, Dialga Ex looks like the potentially most meta-changing addition to the game’s card pool, not least because of its Metallic Turbo move. While 30 damage for two Energy isn’t exactly great, the main value of this attack is that it attaches two Metal Energy to a benched Pokemon of the player’s choosing, which is a pretty remarkable tempo play. Dialga Ex could hence finally make Metal decks inPokemon TCG Pocketviable.
DeNA’s latest trailer also saw the developer reveal thatPokemon TCG Pocketwill be adding trading on January 28, a day ahead of the Space-Time Smackdown set’s release. While the company previously confirmed all the game’s expansions will be rotated, there’s currently no indication that Genetic Apex will be pulled fromPokemon TCG Pocketjust yet, so the original set’s booster packs should still be available for ripping once Space-Time Smackdown arrives on the 29th.
