Summary
Sony has releasedPlayStation 5console update 25.01-10.60.00, which is rolling out as a “phased release” to fans around the world. Fresh updates are released for thePlayStation 5on a regular basis. Sometimes these updates add substantial new features to the console, but most of the time they are fairly routine.
Late last year, Sony released a significant new PS5 update that added special themes to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary. The PlayStation 30th Anniversary themes let gamers customize the look of their console’s home screen with styles based on the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Furthermore, the PlayStation 30th Anniversary update also added a special boot screen based on theiconic PlayStation 1 start-up sequence. Needless to say, this marked one of the more popular PS5 console updates to date. It’s unlikely that the latest PS5 console update is going to drum up nearly as much fanfare.

The newest PS5 console update is rolling out now. The patch notes state that the new PS5 update improves system software performance and stability, as well as messages and usability “on some screens.” Thevague PS5 console update patch notesare light on details, and so it seems the improvements will likely go unnoticed by the vast majority of users. Still, it’s nice that Sony is still improving on the console’s performance.
While the patch notes make no mention of removing thePS5 30th Anniversary themes, there is some concern that Sony will take them away at some point soon. The new PS5 console update isn’t available to me yet, so I can’t test it for myself, but there have been no reports as of this writing that the themes have been removed. Still, those paranoid about the themes going away may want to exercise caution before downloading the newest PS5 console update.
Many PlayStation fans are holding out hope that Sony will simply decide to keep the 30th Anniversary themes as a permanent addition. The demand for the themes to stay is enough thatthousands have signed a petitionasking Sony to reconsider its plans to eventually remove the themes. Other brands have even voiced their opinion on the matter, with Domino’s Pizza asking Sony to keep the themes. Whether the themes stay or go remains to be seen, but fans will definitely want to keep an eye on console update patch notes.
