It’s always fun to see athriller movie that switches up the home invasion plot, and from the fast-paced trailer, it’s clear thatCold Watertells a story that isn’t what it seems. Of course, it would be boring if the main characters got exactly what they wanted from the opening scene, so they’re likely going to struggle a lot before the movie’s conclusion. Castillo’s performance is already impressive in the trailer as he wrestles with the impossible situation that he is thrust into.Cold Wateroffers up a shocking and exciting story while having something thoughtful to say about financial pressures and cryptocurrency.
In an interview withThe AU Review, Hodierne talked about working onCold Waterand explained thathe took inspiration fromthe beloved Stephen King horror movieThe Shining. He said:
“I know that’s a bold one to try and borrow from, but there’s something really cool about the big mansion, or in the case of that film the hotel. That starkness, mano a mano, not-in-a-hurry to cause pain…knowing the prey has nowhere to go. I don’t want to give anything away, but I feel like we were restrained when it came to the story going off the rails and the chaos erupting. But we still maintained a psychological urgency.”
Cold Waterpremiered at the SXSW Film & TV Festival andwill bein theaters and on digital on February 28th, 2025.
