Nothing saysSavage Planetseries quite like critters. From bouncing brains to enormous space whales,Revenge of the Savage Planetis filled with creatures for players to scan, research, and possibly bring back home and pet. The newly revealed fifth planet is no exception - but these critters are a little outside the norm.Revenge of the Savage Planet’sfinal and most mysterious planet turns out to be inhabited by flora and fauna with a bit of a futuristic twist.
Game Rant spoke toRaccoon Logic creative director Alex Hutchinsonfollowing the reveal and brief teaser of the fifth planet. He couldn’t say much without spoiling the upcoming game, but he did reveal some exciting news about the crittersRevenge of the Savage Planet’splayers will be able to find once they have made their way into the secret indoor “den of fun” that is the co-op Metroidvania-inspired game’s final area.
Existing Critters Will Return With A Cyber Theme
Journey to the Savage Planet,the first game in the series, had dozens of critters for players to interact with, andRevengewill add even more. The fifth planet’s critters, Hutchinson revealed, will not be entirely new ones, but instead upgraded and cyber-enhanced versions of existing ones players have met on the previous planets. This fits the theme of the fifth planet, whichfeatures a 90s aestheticand is far more industrial and high-tech than any of the previous four.
All the creatures on the fifth world are cyber versions of their main game counterparts. Creatures who have been upgraded with strange cybernetic enhancements: laser beam visors, gun turrets, plasma shields, all kinds of weird tech. Oh, and a few can fly now!
It has not yet been confirmed which critters will get upgraded cyber versions - imagine what sort of liquid an upgraded Babutt—a bottom-faced monkey encountered inRevenge of the Savage Planet’s early game—might spew out as a manner of attack. The trailer revealing the fifth planet contains a few hints: a large monster is seen shooting what seem to be fireballs at the player, while another looks to be covered in fire or lightning. One thing is certain, however: in trueRevenge of the Savage Planetfashion, whatever creatures do lurk in this interior lair, they will certainly be memorable in both design and behavior, with plenty of options for intrepid players hoping to interact with and maybe even befriend them.
