Summary
According to a recent retail listing, Nintendo may be planning on releasing a new 3DSuper Mariogame and a newLegend of Zeldaremake for theNintendo Switch 2by the time 2025 is over. While various indie games have announced plans to release on theNintendo Switch 2, only one big Nintendo-published game has been confirmed for the platform so far.
When Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2, it chose to only showcase a single game for the new system. As confirmed by the Switch 2 reveal trailer, a newMario Kartgame is in developmentfor the home console/handheld hybrid. Of course, Nintendo undoubtedly has more games in the Switch 2 pipeline for the console’s launch and beyond, though those titles have yet to be announced.

Now it seems at least two of them may have been leaked online. As spotted by Insider Gaming, retailer Newegg is selling a $50 Nintendo eShop Gift Card with a description that talks about new Nintendo games coming in 2025. The description mentions games that have already been confirmed, likeMetroid Prime 4: Beyond,Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition,Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the newMario Kart, but it also mentions a couple of games that haven’t been announced. If the Newegg listing is accurate and not just an error or an educated guess, it seems Nintendo fans can expect a new 3DSuper Mariogame and aZeldaremake in 2025.
3D Mario and a Zelda Remake Rumored for Switch 2 in 2025
Rumors have been swirling for quite some time that a new 3DSuper Mariogame is in development for the Switch 2, and really, it would be far more surprising if onewasn’tin the works for the console. After all, a new 3DSuper Mariohas been released for every Nintendo console sinceSuper Mario 64launched with the Nintendo 64 back in the 90s, and so there’s no reason to think Nintendo would suddenly break from tradition when it comes to one of its most popular franchises. The only question is what form the new 3DSuper Mariogame will take. There are rumors that thenextMariogame will be open world, a concept tested with great success inBowser’s Fury, but time will tell.
As far as theZeldaremake goes, that’s harder to guess. It’s possible that the listing is actually referring to ports of the Wii U gamesWind Waker HDandTwilight Princess HD, which have been expected for Switch for years. The use of the word “remake” suggests something more substantial, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath. There are all kinds ofZeldagames that would be ripe for a remake, but since thetwo HD versions of the GameCube classics remain trapped on the Wii U, it would make the most sense to bring them over to the Switch 2.
Unfortunately, we may not get clarification on this latest rumor for a few months. Nintendo is unlikely to make any major Switch 2 game announcements until theSwitch 2 Direct on April 2. But if these projects are cross-gen, like the rumoredZeldagame very well could be, perhaps some more news will come at the rumored Switch 1-focused Direct in February.
