Back in mid-January, industry insider NateTheHatesuggested that the next PlayStation State of Play will happen in February 2025. Responding to a recent fan inquiry asking for a more precise time frame, NateTheHate replied with a question of his own: “what does your heart tell you?” The cheeky remark seems to suggest that the first State of Play event of 2025 will take place around Valentine’s Day, i.e., in mid-February. While all rumors of this sort should be taken with a grain of salt, NateTheHate generally has a solid track record and has recently been on a roll, which culminated in him leaking the date of the much-anticipated Switch 2 announcement days in advance.
Next State of Play May Happen Between February 11 and 19
Since March 2019, Sony has held 25 State of Play events, as well as four larger showcases. Not one of them took place on a Friday. With February 14 falling on a Friday, this pattern suggests the next State of Play likely won’t happen on Valentine’s Day. Historically, Sony has favored Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Wednesdays—in that order—for its game showcases. Given this trend and NateTheHate’s belief that Sony is targeting a mid-February livestream, the rumored event seems most likely to take place between February 11–13 or 18–19. Sony usuallyannounces PlayStation State of Play broadcasts up to two days in advance, so if this forecast is accurate, it should be confirmed no later than February 17.
What Games Could Appear at the February 2025 State of Play?
The February 2025 State of Play is likely to feature Kojima Productions' next game, not least becauseDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachis targeting a 2025 launchbut still doesn’t have a firm release date.Ghost of Yoteicould appear during the upcoming event for the same reason.Fairgame$, the debut title from Sony-owned Haven Studios, could also be part of the next State of Play roster, as it hasn’t been shown since its 2023 reveal.
State of Play events that aren’t focused on individual games are around 35 minutes long on average. The rumored February 2025 livestream should hence have a similar runtime.
