Summary
The nextNintendo Directmight take place on February 4 or 5, some newly surfaced evidence suggests. The event itself is rumored to beNintendo’s final general Direct that won’t be focused on the Switch 2.
The Japanese gaming giant typically announces its Direct-branded broadcasts a day ahead of time. It deviated from this pattern on January 16, when itscheduled a Nintendo Direct two and a half months in advance. However, that particular event is already known to be all about the company’s next console, with recent rumors suggesting another Nintendo Direct—this one centered on the Switch—could occur in the meantime.

This theory has now been bolstered by a piece of circumstantial evidence in the form of Nintendo’s maintenance schedule. According to a recent update to the company’s website, the Switch user data and save file transfer services will undergo maintenance on February 4, from 8:30pm to 10:30pm PT. As noted by Famiboards userKing, Nintendo’s online service maintenance sometimes overlaps with its broadcasting schedule. E.g., the latest two general Directs—which took place in June 2024 and September 2023—both aligned with such service maintenance. Similarly, theSeptember 2022 Nintendo Directhappened 24 hours after the company’s online services underwent maintenance. Based on this pattern, the next Nintendo Direct may be scheduled for February 4 or 5.
A February 2025 Nintendo Direct Has Been Rumored For a While Now
The Switch maker’s online service maintenance schedule isn’t a reliable indicator of its non-general broadcasts, such as those focused on specific games and Nintendo Indie World-branded streams. However, there have already been some hints of ageneral Nintendo Direct happening in February 2025. This was recently claimed by Pedro “PH Brazil” Henrique Lutti Lippe, a Brazilian journalist who gained notoriety for breaking last year’s story of the Switch 2 being scheduled for a 2025 release rather than a 2024 one, like many industry watchers were expecting at the time.
Assuming a February 2025 Nintendo Direct is indeed happening, such an event is all but certain to focus on this year’s Switch game lineup.Metroid Prime 4: Beyondseems like the most obvious candidate to be featured during the broadcast, being one of the last big first-party games confirmed to be coming to Nintendo’s 2017 console. WhilePokemon Legends: Z-Ahas also been confirmed for the Switch, new information about Game Freak’s upcoming title isn’t expected to arrive before February 27, when thePokemon Day 2025 Pokemon Presents is rumored to take place.
Given how Nintendo is widely reported to be saving most of its unannounced first-party games for the Switch 2, a Switch-focused Direct at the start of 2025 seems likely to predominantly consist of third-party titles. As for the company’s next console, the schedule of its pop-up preview events suggests it won’t hit the market until June 2025 at the earliest.
