Tokyo Ghoul’s anime adaptation just turned 10 years old this year. Fans who have watched the original first season when it first came out probably remember just how popular and incredibly well-written it was. Back then, Tokyo Ghoul was definitely one of the biggest series out there as everyone was captivated by its first season.
The downfall, however, starts with its second season, and ends with its third and final season. Starting with the second season, everything took a nosedive, as the pacing of the anime and what they adapted changed. The pacing became way too fast, with the adaptation cramming far too many chapters in every episode, which made it hard to keep up or get invested in what was happening in the story. What’s worse, the vast majority of the story that was covered in Season 2 was anime original, meaning the story had been completely derailed from the manga.
This is why hopes of a new adaptation excites fans, as the manga is beloved and praised for its story.
