Sakamoto Daysis one of the most talked-about anime of this season, and for the right reasons, of course. The new anime series from TMS Entertainment has garnered the community’s attention right from the very first episode. It’s true that the first few episodesdidn’t live up to the expectations of some fanswhen it comes to animation, but things might improve in the coming episodes. Also, it’s hard to deny that the premiere episodes have surprised the fandom by flexing some incredible fight sequences.
The anime features several great and complex characters, includingShinandLu Shaotang; however, it’s the mysterious protagonist of the series that has everyone talking.Sakamoto’sbackstory is revealed in the very first episode. Still, we feel like we know very little about this character. The main reason behind the mystery surrounding this character is his habit of talking less. While other characters in the series can be frustratingly talkative at times,Sakamotobarely says anything.

Sakamoto Believes In “More Action, Less Words”
His Actions Speak Louder Than Words
TaroSakamoto, unlike other characters in the series, has a calm personality. He stays composed and never loses his cool, even in the most intense situations. He was once the world’s top Assassin, and in that line of work, showing emotions is considered a weakness. From the very beginning,Sakamotolearned to suppress his emotions because he knew that sentiments like anger or anxiety could cloud his judgment, and one small mistake could cost him his life. For the very same reason,Sakamotochooses to talk very rarely. He knows that expressing everything throughwords might reveal his weakness, and someone could use that against him.
Previously,Sakamoto’scalm and less talkative demeanor helped him survive against some of the most powerful enemies. Now, this same habit oftalking less keepsSakamoto’sfamily safefrom his previous life.Sakamotoloves his wife and child dearly and can go to any lengths to keep them safe. He knows that some crucial information about his family might slip by if he’s always showcasing what he’s feeling through words. That’s the same reason he prefers to communicate even with his biggest ally, Shin, through his thoughts. Even though he stopped being a “Killing machine,” hedoesn’t let his guard down even for a second. Sakamoto is always analyzing his surroundings, and he can’t be that cautious if he’s always talking.
“Before I retired, I used my strength to hurt people. Now, I use it to protect the people I love. “ — Sakamoto.
There are all sorts of Assassins in this world, and no one knows this better thanSakamoto. Even his loyal friend Shin can read people’s thoughts, which he uses to defend himself or attack someone.Sakamotoknows that there could be other people with similar or even better abilities, and not everyone would want to be his friend. That is why he has alsoperfected the art of hiding his thoughts. Shin can only readSakamoto’smind when the latter allows him.
Taro Sakamoto’s Development Later In The Series
The Former Assassin Will Start To Open Up More
Even though we, as fans, would love to seeSakamototalking more, it does make sense why the character was written this way. People whotrulyknowSakamotounderstand why he chooses to stay mute in almost every situation, so it’s no wonder we haven’t seen anyone, including his wife, forcingSakamototo speak more. In fact, people get shocked, even scared, when Sakamoto starts talking more. They start wondering if there’s something wrong with him.
There’s a big difference between not expressing emotions and not having any. Like any other human being,Sakamotodoes feel anger or love. It’s his love for his wife, Aoi, that prevents him from killing his enemies. He always honors the “No killing” ruleimposed by his wife. Also, Sakamoto gets furious when someone threatens his family, including Shin and Lu Shaotang.
Sakamoto is a compassionate man who always helps someone in need. In fact, it was his caring nature that eventually helped Lu Shaotang survive against all her enemies. Of course, it was Aoi who tapped into Sakamoto’s sensitive side, but it wouldn’t have been possible if there was no goodness inside of him already.
In the beginning,Sakamotodoes come off cold, buthe does open up later in the series. As the story progresses, we see our protagonist talking more and expressing more emotions verbally. He’ll grow closer to Shinand Lu Shaotang and will start considering them a part of his family.
For now, Sakamoto may only express what he’s feeling in his mind, but that’ll change later in the series. We’ll see him expressing love and care for his family through words, and yes, we’ll also see anger getting hold of him when someone hurts his family. We may not see him being as talkative as other characters, but we’ll surely hear his voice more later in the series.
