Summary

When I learned my favoritehorrorfranchise would be coming back for a seventh movie, I hoped the legacy cast members from the past few films would live to see another day. Thankfully,Scream 7’s cast includes plenty of nostalgic faces. Neve Campbell is playing final girl Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox is back as journalist Gale Weathers, andMason Gooding will play Chad Meeks-Martin again.Varietyrecently reported thatJasmin Savoy Brown is coming back to play Chad’s twin sister Mindy Meeks-Martin.

I’m interested to see how the newer characters fit into the framework of the fight against Ghostface. I also can’t wait to see Mindy again asshe’s a smart, brave, and compelling character. Now that audiences know Chad and Mindy will both return to help Sidney out, I have some ideas for their character arcs.

Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding) in Scream (2022)

Ifthe rumor is true andScream 7has a time jump, I think thatMindy and Chad could be living in Woodsboro. While they had fun attending college inNew York City inScream 6, it would make sense for them to return back home. After everything they’ve been through, they might feel comforted by a familiar setting.

I also would love to seeMindy and Chad hosting a true crime podcast. They could analyze the real-life Woodsboro murders and also talk about some ofthe best slasher movies released in recent years. SinceMindy has taken on the horror movie expert rolethat her late uncle Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) had, this would fit with her character. Chad could offer some comedic relief on the podcast since he isn’t as into slasher movies as his sister is. But since he wanted to spend time with her, he agreed to co-host the show. Maybe Mindy and Chad could even have Sidney on as a special guest, which would allow them to bond over the threat that they once faced together.

Scream 6 Core Four

Mindy talked about the difficulty of making a sequel inScream (2022)and it would be fun to see her have the same kind of monologue inScream 7.Mindy said:

“you’re able to’t just reboot a franchise from scratch anymore, the fans won’t stand for it. Black Christmas,Child’s Play,Flatliners… But, you just can’t do a straight sequel, either… It’s gotta be a part of an ongoing storyline, even if the story shouldn’t have been ongoing in the first place. New main characters, yes, but supported by and related to… legacy characters. Not quite a reboot, not quite a sequel.”

This time around, Mindy could wax poetic about horror movies on her podcast. It would be terrifying ifGhostface phoned into the podcastand Mindy thought he was just a fan trying to be funny and scary. Chad and Mindy could argue over whether the threat was real. This would create some conflict between them and make their dynamic more compelling.

Although it seemed likely thatChad would die inScream 6, he escaped Ghostface, and it would make sense forGhostface to come after Chad and Mindy again. As long as fans get to see their close sibling dynamic and they’re given equal screen time, I’ll be happy with Chad and Mindy’sScream 7storylines.

What Did Jasmin Savoy Brown Say About The Scream Franchise?

In January 2024,Jasmin Savoy Brown said she hadn’t been approached about appearing inScream 7. She said in an interview withEntertainment Tonight:

“I haven’t gotten a call, so I think if you want to ask Spyglass what they’re doing, you can.”

Fans are definitely glad that Savoy Brown is coming back asMindy is an intelligent character who was a crucial part ofScream (2022)andScream 6. She knows everything abouthorror movie final girlsand the common tropes found in originals and sequels, and it’s great that she will come back to impart more knowledge inScream 7.

Besides answering questions about whether she would be reprising her beloved role,Savoy Brown talked about theScreamfranchisein a 2023 interview withElle Magazine. She said:

“All three options in aScreammovie are solid. You either die, and it’s going to be an epic death. You survive, and that’s amazing, or you’re the killer. So, no matter which hand I’m dealt, every time I’m happy."
