You might wonder how to get to grips with the game’s light and dark mechanics as you explore ‘In the Shadows,’ the second part ofShady Part of Me’s Exposition Prologue.
While games can play with light and shadow differently,Shady Part of Mefeatures a little girl frightened of the light and her shadow lending a helping hand. It also details the locations of all paper origami birds you can find within ‘In the Shadows.’
Shady Part of Me In The Shadows Walkthrough (Exposition, Session 2)
After completing the first part of the Exposition Prologue, you immediately start the second part of the game’s prologue introduction, called’Session 2: In The Shadows.‘Things kick off with the little girl sitting on a bed in a child’s bedroom and there are just a handful ofcontrolsto use as detailed below (controls listed for those playing the game onXbox consoles):
To get started,exit the bedroomthrough the door on the right andstand inside the white circleon the floor in the corridor outside. This causes the path ahead to transform so you can step forward into the shadows inside a room full of beds.
The little girl can onlywalk inside shadowy areas, and stepping into the light causes her to cower back afraid or worse, so be careful tostick to the shadowsandwalk around the spotlightsshining onto the floor, as pictured above. Walk around the beds andinto another white circleat the end of the room by the door on the right, triggering the next area ahead.
Light Puzzle One - Opening Door Light Puzzle (First Origami Bird)
At this point, you’ll likely learnhow to use therewind buttonto rewind time, as when you step towards thepaper origami birdin front of the double doors, they swing open and flood the little girl with light, causing her to stop and sit on the ground. Hold theright trigger to rewindand complete this section again, which can be seen as the game’s first mainlight puzzle.
To solve the opening door puzzle and get past the light safely,stand behind the tableto hide the girl in the shadows. Wait until the doors close again before quickly grabbing the origami bird to grab it and move to the right of the screen. Head to the right andstand in the next white circleto complete this section and trigger the next environmental change.
There are four paper origami birds to collect in the first part of the Exposition prologue, and five to find within ‘In the Shadows.’
Moving and Flickering Spotlight Puzzles
It’s not possible to move further right with light from the window blocking your path, so head down towards the screen where you’ll find a series of spotlights that turn on and off in the nextlight puzzle, which is all about timing. Remember to stay in the shadows andwait until the lights turn offbefore you move past them. There is also anorigami birdto collect down thecorridor on the leftbefore you move past the moving light on the right byusing the small balcony for cover.
After exploring near the little kid on the right who the girl says never wants to play, head upwards past the bookcases and more spotlight puzzles in the same way as before until you reach the beams of light streaming through the windows.
There is also anotherorigami birdnext to the books on the right of the corridor above, which can be easily missed while focusing on the light patterns. However, you either retrace your steps or hit the rewind button to try again if you miss it the first time.
Window Light Puzzle Solution and Completing In The Shadows
The final light puzzle within ‘In the Shadows’ is awindow light puzzle, where you can find anotherorigami bird location. As the light from the window is stationary, you can get past this section and reach the paper bird in the corner bywalking around the beams of lightandwalking in the line of shadowon the floorwhere the text says ‘They will see,’ ‘They will say,‘and’They will talk.‘Hug the wall and the furniture on the floor to move past the light until you reach thenext white circleon the right.
Once again, stand inside the circle to get started in the next area, where you just need to travel down thecorridor of floating books, giving a different feel to the3D puzzle platformingelements seen so far. Turn right at the end of the corridor lined withmoving statue headsand head down the final corridor toreach the final white circleandthebeginning of Act 1, ‘Whole Again.’ There is also thefifth origami birdto collect at the end of the corridor in between the two statues where the text states ‘Judging.’
This completes ‘In the Shadows,’ enabling you to start Act 1 ofShady Part of Me, where you get to meet and control the little girl’s shadow and switch between the two characters freely going forward.
