Should You Kill Or Spare Jonna In The Witcher 3?

The Nithing quest is one of the most morally complex in the entire game, which is why it often has so many players confused. After talking to Lothar, Geralt will investigate the nithing and use his Witcher Senses to find clues regarding the whereabouts of the caster, as revealing their identity is the only way to turn the curse on them. After doing some investigating, Geralt finds a skellige shawl with a distinctive scent that leads directly to Rannvaig and belongs to the herbalist, Jonna.

When she reveals that she, in fact, placed the nithing outside of Lothar’s hut and cursed him for leaving her after 10 years together, you’ll be met with a difficult choice. On one hand, you have a grieving woman who feels betrayed and is letting her grief get the best of her. On the other, you have a man who didn’t love Jonna anymore and is now paying the price for following his heart. After much deliberation, Jonna agrees to lift the curse if Lothar returns to her, so Geralt will have to either tell Lothar to return to her and nobody dies, or reverse the nithing’s curse on Jonna. From a moral standpoint, the option that does not involve death is preferable, even if it’s unfair to Lothar. However, if you’re only taking mission rewards into consideration, here’s where things stand:

At the end of the day, besides the moral arguments to be made on this mission, your choice should be based on what you need more. Provided you want some extra money to craft new armor or weapons, then turning the curse on Jonna is the way to go. While this quest does not involve a lot of action, knowinghow to healthrough various means, including the Quen Sign, can be a great advantage for other quests you’ll encounter down the line.

What Are The Rewards For Each Scenario?

If you decide to turn the nithing’s curse on Jonna, you’ll get 25 XP and 60 Crowns, which isn’t a lot, but might come in handy nonetheless. On the other hand, if you decide to spare Jonna, you’ll get 75 XP but no Crowns. In any case, the only one truly losing in this exchange is Jonna.
