Weaver joined the cast without details on her character, but two reputable sources have now provided information on who she plays and the size of her role.

In John Rocha and Jeff Sneider’sThe Hot Mic, Sneider revealed thatWeaver plays a New Republic colonel named Bishop.Star Warsfans excited to see Weaver join the franchise may want to prepare for her to have a limited role, as Sneider also claims she’s “only in a few scenes.“Bespin Bulletinbacked Sneider’s reporting, adding the admittedly “worthless” detail that Weaver’scharacter loves playing Sabacc, the franchise’s fictional gambling card game.
Sneider also addressed the accusation that Favreau was directingThe Mandalorian and Grogufrom another location. According to Sneider, Favreau was sick with COVID-19 and was required to direct remotely for a few weeks. Assistant Director Kim Richards, Second Unit Director Peter Ramsay, and Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer Dave Filioni “picked up the slack.”
As Rocha and Sneider noted, naming Weaver’s character Bishop is a throwback to James Cameron’sAliens. The sequel co-starred Lance Henriksen as an android Bishop, whom Weaver’s Ellen Ripley distrusts due to her experience with the antagonistic android named Ash inthe firstAlienmovie. On theStar WarsLeaks subreddit, user u/MSLI1972humorously predicted the full name of Weaver’s character would be “Colonel Zuul Bishop,” which would be a nod to the demigod who possessed Weaver’s Dana Barrett inGhostbusters.
Of course, while a name and position for Weaver’s character is more information than fans previously had, there’s still speculation on Colonel Bishop’s role in the story. On Reddit, many fans suspect Weaver’s character will be an antagonist to Din Djarin. They believe she might disapprove of Din working for the Republic, as suggested byThe Mandalorian and Groguplot rumorsabout Din Djarin being hired by the Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt. Alternatively, they speculate that she could be an undercover Imperial loyalist. Of course, this is all speculation, and fans still have over a year to find out if they’re right.

Acting as the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian has become incredibly popular on Disney+, partly due to Mando’s relationship with Grogu, which the internet dubbed “Baby Yoda” upon his introduction in season 1.
