South Korean studioRedice Entertainment, behind the manhwa adaptation ofSolo Leveling, is now investing in the international film industry! Redice has long been in the webtoon industry, and has produced a few hits.
Solo Levelingis probably their most popular work, but they have evenproduced many more manhwa! It’s likely more of their works will get anime adaptations — despiteSolo Levelingbeing originally a novel, the webtoon version has been key increating an international fanbase for the series.
Redicewill present a lineup at the European Film Market (EFM), which takes places on February 13-19, 2025, in Berlin. Their titles includeSisterandKilling Time, currently in post-production.
Previous Redice Investiments in Movies
The first investment Redice made in the filming industry was financing the Thai horror filmThe Cursed Land(produced by Neramitnung Film), which premiered in 2024, at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
The company also has other previously announced titles to show at the festival, likeThe Bus, The Go To Restaurant, SamakdoandVeranda.
What Does It All Mean?
Well, for now, it just means the company wants to expand its activities and probably got a good return fromThe Cursed Land, or else it wouldn’t be involved in so many other productions.
Redice seems to be “starting big”.Sisteris a crime thriller starring Jung Zi-so (Parasite), and involves a hostage dealing with two kidnappers.Killing Timeis a horror production focused on a fictitious YouTube team who, during a live broadcast, loses a member in a sudden accident.
As far as we’ve checked, none of these titles seem to have any relation to the webtoon branch of Redice Studio. However, the company, if successful in these first productions, could also start looking for partners to adapt major manhwa from their portfolio,includingSolo Leveling.
