Summary
Spider-Man 4has been dealing with many issues recently, from the initial script being denied to members of the cast having availability problems. This has led to some concerns about whatSpider-Man 4will look like and whether or not the movie will be able to live up to the high standards of the previous three Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
The movie could end up going in many ways, with fans speculating about which direction the web-slinger could take next. However, one of those might be following the same path asDeadpool and Wolverine, which might prove to be the wrong choice overall.

Sony Creatives Are Hoping Spider-Man 4 Follows Deadpool & Wolverine
Very little is known about the plot forSpider-Man 4outside of the original script being denied and the fact that it featured two classic villains. However, it has been rumored that Sony is pushing for the movie to be a team-up similar toDeadpool and Wolverine. That film saw the two titular characters come together and join forces with several other multiverse heroes, such as Gambit and Blade, which created a lot of fun.
Sony has co-produced and distributed the previous Tom Holland movies, which will be the case again withSpider-Man 4. There have been rumors that Sony’s former Spider-Man stars Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield could be returning once again, potentially teaming up with Holland as they did inSpider-Man: No Way Home. That movie proved to be a major hit, which might be another reason why Sony is interested in repeating the formula and taking things to the next level.

That Type Of Storytelling Will Not Translate To Spider-Man 4
The team-up aspect ofDeadpool & Wolverineworked so well because the movie broke the fourth wall and threw in clever jokes at everyone’s expense. Deadpool is the type of character that works perfectly in this setting, which is why all three of his movies, up to this point, have involved teams. He bounces well off others, creating an engaging and interesting movie and is the type of content that works best forthe Merc with the Mouth.
The same cannot be said for Spider-Man. That character is all about being sympathetic and an underdog, eventually fighting the odds to come out on top. It’s what people have come to expect from Peter Parker, regardless of who has been playing the character, but that is particularly true for Holland’s version. While he interacts perfectly with others in the Avengers or with the other Spider-Man characters, he’s best on his own because that’s when the sympathy can be brought out. He can be quite awkward and nerdy by his very nature, and that doesn’t work best when it comes to being a team leader. Deadpool or Iron Man work in that role because of their personalities, whereas Spider-Man is best being kept away from it,which is why it wouldn’t translate.

Spider-Man 4 Could Pale In Comparison To Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverinewas very much a movie serviced to the hardcore Marvel fans withtons of cameo appearancesand winks to previous films. The movie had no problem mocking Marvel or Sony’s mistakes, which created an incredible atmosphere that hasn’t been seen in any other Marvel film and likely never will again because it’s unique to those specific characters and the relationships they have built up. Audiences expected that from the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led movie, but people don’t go into aSpider-Manfilm anticipating that type of content.
ThrustingSpider-Man 4into thatwould be a risk because it could pale in comparison and be seen as nothing more than a cheap imitation.

Doing another movie in this format so quickly after the previous one would only push the comparison further becauseDeadpool and Wolverinewould be so fresh in people’s minds. If Marvel Studios is going to try another team-up movie in the same vein asDeadpool and Wolverine, then there needs to be a lot of time given so that it feels fresh and different once again, which will help that movie stand out.
TheSpider-Manfranchise hasn’t been anything like the tone ofDeadpool & Wolverineeither, and that would instantly make the change feel out of place. Marvel has put together agood theme for theSpider-Manmovies thus far, and deciding to tinker with that would be a risk within itself anyway. Putting him into a team-up movie would potentially disappoint audiences who have grown to love the trilogy and expect that to continue. Plus, there’s a chance that Spider-Man himself could be lost in the shuffle, at least Holland’s version. He took a step back in the previous film, and doing that again would be risky as it could damage the character beyond repair.
