Varietyreported that Matt and Ross Duffer received the Variety Showrunners Award at SCAD TVfest and explained that they are following their post-production schedule. This is a great update to hear, especially since fans have been curious about how much longer they have to wait to see what happens to these smart, compelling, and kind-hearted characters. There have also been questions about how long each episode is going to be, and even thoughFinn Wolfhard said the long episodes are a good thing, viewers are still uncertain about the runtime.

“I will say that it is coming this year. We’re definitely on target.”

This is a huge relief for fans whoworried thatStranger Thingsseason 5 would be delayedand come out in 2026. Matt Duffer toldVarietyinJanuary 2025,“I just know it was very important for us and Netflix that we get it out this year. But even that is quite the push. Even season 4, we cut that so tight.” But now, whilethere is no exact release date forStranger Thingsseason 5,fans at least can rest assured that it will be released sometime this year.

Since fans have been waiting for almost three years to see the final season of this beloved series, viewers would have been more than a little disappointed if it was pushed even further back. Some would argue that even a three-year wait is too long, but there are a few reasons why it has been so long sincetheStranger Thingsseason 4 finalebegan streaming on Netflix, including the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike.

While the Duffer Brothers are of course always asked about what’s going to happen intheStranger Thingsseries finale, they can’t give any story details or even mention much about the cast members. However, it’s great news that they were able to sharewhen fans can expect to see the end of Eleven and The Party’s gripping and epic story.
