Disney Dreamlight Valley’s character roster is fairly diverse despite only adapting characters from Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Studios. From dashing heroes and delightful princesses to cuddly creatures and dastardly villains, a wide array of characters are available for players to befriend inDisney Dreamlight Valley. Of course, taste is subjective, but what is arguably the game’s best character adaptation succeeds for some shocking reasons.

A good character addition and adaptation inDisney Dreamlight Valleyisn’t just about putting a fan favorite character into the game. Players with completionist tendencies have to hit all ten levels of each character’s Friendship Rewards to feel successful at the game. Withforty-seven villagers available inDisney Dreamlight Valley, including its two expansion passes, A Rift in Time and Storybook Vale, players spend plenty of time with characters. But quality time isn’t always the best indicator of a friendship developing, as quests should entertain players - something Gaston’s objectives absolutely do.

There’s No One Like Gaston

Gaston’s quests are some of the funniest content withinDisney Dreamlight Valley. Gaston may seem like an unorthodox pick for several reasons, since he’s one of the few villain villagers inDisney Dreamlight Valley, and it’s even more surprising that he’s pay-walledin the A Rift in Time Expansion Pass. But for fans who are obsessed with the more character and plot-driven elements ofDisney Dreamlight Valley, purchasing A Rift in Time not just for its storyline, but for Gaston specifically, is very much worth it.

Disney Dreamlight Valleyis unique in the way that it gives players the chance to essentially redeem villains. Gaston is no exception, as despite maintaining his self-centered and narcissistic nature,Disney Dreamlight Valleyplays off these negative traitsin hilarious ways. From dialogue lines to quest objectives, some Gaston interactions will simply burst players' belly.

Both his Friendship and Story Quests contain some hilarious moments that make Gaston seem more three-dimensional. Gaston’s very first Story Quest,The Wanderer of the Dunes, shows a Gaston that’s practically crazy, with his makeshift LeFou made out of coconuts. As a player’s Friendship with Gaston reaches higher levels, the Objectives can be quite hilarious. The Freezer of Infinite Meat is one of the sillier items inDisney Dreamlight Valley, necessary for players to obtain when completing Gaston’s Level 2 Friendship Quest, Center of Attention.

Gaston’s self-centered nature is also obvious in his actions, not just his dialogue, such as when he only uses himself when playing ScrabbleCoin and the Gastonian Appreciation Party during theDreamlight Valley’s Next Top LeFou Friendship Quest(Gaston Level 10). It’s clear that players also have to put in work to max out this Friendship, with Objectives like “Hang out with Gaston for Five Minutes” clearly insinuating that he’s a lot to put up with. But Gaston’s character development is also obvious when looking at the Objectives for his Friendship Quests. Lines like “an emotionally shattered Gaston is waiting for you near the gym,” come to mind.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Has Always Made a Case for Villains

Gaston is one of the best examples ofDisney Dreamlight Valley’s dedication to including villains in its character roster. There are only six villains currently onDisney Dreamlight Valley’s character roster, with a seventh, Maleficent, slated to be added this summer in the second chapter of the Storybook Vale Expansion Pass. Gaston represents the group of villains separated from the heroes of their initial film, with Mother Gothel and seemingly Jafar also fitting in this group. These antagonists have protagonists that are either pay-walled or are themselves featured inDisney Dreamlight Valley’s DLC. While there’s no confirmed reason as to why Gameloft and Disney decided to separate some villains and heroes, it does give players more space to rehabilitate villains without any awkward character interactions.

Though he may be construed as just an oaf,Disney Dreamlight Valley’sadaptation of Gastonis a clear example of how the game examines and expands upon its villains through dialogue, objectives, and character interactions.
