The Sims 1 and 2re-release couldn’t be coming at a better time, as life sim games are on the rise in the coming year. The timing might also work in the re-release’s favor as the Switch 2 is also set to release this year, givingThe Sims 1 and 2a perfect home for mobile players.

As one of the original simulation games, the whole cozy life sim genre owes everything toThe Sims. Maybe it’s fitting then that in a year with dozens of simulation games on the horizon,The Sims 1 and 2re-release is on the way. As the future of the genre takes off to new and unexpected places, it’s the perfect time to head back to where it all began. It’s believed thatThe Sims 1 and 2will be a PC exclusive, but one console feels like a perfect second home for the game. Because of the Nintendo Switch 2’s mouse functionality, it would be an ideal console to receive a port of the originalSimsgames.

The Switch 2’s Mouse Function Could Give The Sims a New Home

Despite the console’s official announcement, still not much is confirmed about the Switch 2. One upgrade, however, has been confirmed after being seen in the console’s reveal trailer. Newjoy-cons for the Switch 2 will have mouse functionality, adding a new way for players to interact with games on Nintendo’s latest console. Surely the gaming giant has plans in store for their own games to utilize the mouse-like function of the new controllers, but an uncountable number of PC games already have that function at their core. WithThe Sims 1 and 2set to release well before the Switch 2, it might be the best game for players to get used to a familiar control format on an unfamiliar console.

The only foreseeable drawback of portingThe Sims 1 and 2re-release to console might be the absence of an external keyboard. Plenty of games use a situational on-screen keyboard when one is needed, but generally players can’t type as quickly on them. With the Switch 2 already having mouse capability right out of the box though, some are hoping a Switch 2 keyboard might be on the way. If that idea were to become a reality, the Switch 2 could almost function as a stand-in for a PC, allowing players to enjoy games from the early days of PC gaming.

Which Switch 2 Games Can Use the Joy-Con Mouse

Because the console doesn’t even have an official release date yet, the information about which games will release on it and what types of controls they will support is spotty. Currently, there are9 games confirmed to be releasing on the Switch 2, which range from a newMario Kartto new life sims, but it’s unclear if any of the confirmed games will utilize the joy-con’s new mouse. Logic would suggest that Nintendo wouldn’t include this function without plans to use it eventually, but ifThe Sims 1 and 2were available on the Switch 2 at launch, players wouldn’t have to wait to experience it.

IncludingThe Sims 1 and 2re-release could also be a way for the Switch 2 to try and compete with the PC market. Not many games built for PC make it onto Nintendo consoles, usually because they aren’t powerful enough, butThe Sims 1 and 2are the perfect fit. These games of yesteryear shouldn’t have any issue bringing PC content to a current-gen console. With5 Xbox games rumored to release on the Switch 2it feels safe to say thatThe Sims 1 and 2re-release shouldn’t present any graphical issues. Life sim games have performed and sold very well on the original Switch, and the trend looks set to continue on the Switch 2. So, as a piece of gaming history that spawned so many beloved titles,The Sims 1 and 2re-release deserve to find an unexpected, but welcoming, home on the Switch 2.
