Summary
AMC’sThe Walking Deadmay have concluded over three years ago after eleven seasons and 177 episodes, but the iconic and highly successful franchise still has a lot of life in it yet. Over the space of the post-apocalyptic series' twelve years of terrifying and captivating its audience, the show finally ended by wrapping up its original narrative with Rick and Michonne while also setting up the future oftheWalking Deaduniverse.
Throughout its long and, at times, somewhat lackluster seasons towards the end,The Walking Deadhad its fair share of brutal villains. From Shane Walsh, Merle Dixon, and Gareth to Negan, Alpha, and The Governor, fans of the series got to witness some of the most complex and cruelest of characters come to life on the small screen. Although many fans would consider the sarcastic and egotisticalNegan to be the show’s biggest anti-hero, one character that some zombie lovers may have forgotten about is Dwight. A former antagonist in the series and a survivor of the outbreak, Dwight eventually turned his back on Negan to help the main characters take down the Saviors in a revengeful fist of fury. Finally departing the show forFear the Walking Dead, the character’s real-life actor talks about the possibility of starring in moreTWDspin-offs.

In an exclusive interview withScreen Rant, Austin Amelio, who played Dwight inThe Walking DeadandFear the Walking Dead, discusses the possibility of returning to the franchise in another spin-off. With both shows now over and Dwight surviving until the end of the series, which is almost unheard of in theTWDuniverse, the door is cracked open for the character to make a reappearance. Although Amelio seemed open to the idea of jumping back into the shoes of the character, who eventually underwent a significant moral arc, he still wasn’t sure what the future held for Dwight when asked if fans would see him again.
I have no idea. I don’t know. I have no idea. I don’t know. I mean, they’re always trying to do spinoffs and things like that, so maybe something will happen in the future with that. But I’m not quite sure.

Dwight is most certainly one ofThe Walking Dead’s more complex characters. Usually in the show, if a character has evil tendencies, they generally stay that way until they are killed off in some savage fashion by Rick and Co. However, like Negan, Dwight’s redemption arc was monumental, especially when it came to the narrative surrounding its main characters and how their story played out.
Daryl Dixonswore to kill Dwight if he saw him sniffing around, so it’s unlikely the character will make an appearance inThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, but anything is possible. However, they would make a formidable pair if they put their troubles to one side and teamed up. There is a chance Dwight could pop up inDead Cityand, since Negan has also (apparently) changed his ways, this could be a good opportunity for them both, but their previous history together could pose a major problem.
Season two ofThe Walking Dead: Dead Cityairs this year, with an exact premiere date hopefully being revealed soon.
