Summary
Solo Leveling’ssecond season is in full swing, and fans have seen enough to have enough of an idea of the overall quality of the show. But what about its differences with the manhwa series? With incredible battle sequences, and improved art, there’s bound to be some changes between the formats, so let’s take a look at them.
Some fans might also want to know what things are better in the anime, and what are best in the series. So, in this topic, there are several things the anime does better than the manhwa.

1Dynamic Battle Scenes
They’re The Most Obvious Improvement
There are things in theSolo Levelingmanhwa that could be summarized as better than in the anime, but the action scenes are far superior in the animation. The fluidity of movement, the visual effects, the environmental destruction, and the backgrounds are more defined.
Plus, the sequences are obviously extended and showcase the full extent of the character’s abilities. This might be the most obvious improvement from the webtoon to the anime, but fans should not overlook the high-end quality of this series. Needless to say, A-1 Pictures’s team puttheir very hearts and souls into making it, and Season 2 had a quality jump as well.
2Better Character Designs
They Look More Polished
While the artwork in the manhwa series is prime and considered one of the best in the whole Korean comic industry, the truth is that the art team from A-1 Pictures has all the tools of the trade and the latest technology in terms of design.
Their art is superior because they polish everything to the extreme, and since they have to cater to a wider audience, it makes sense that they give every character and their designs a tune-up. The animation also shows more fluidity than the static slides of the webtoon format, but that is also expected.
3Jin-Woo’s Powers
Better Explained And Look Way Better
The series spends a little bit more time exploring Jin-Woo’s powers (Shun Mizushino in the animation) than in the manhwa. Since they had to enlarge some of the aspects of the character growth for production reasons, then they had more leeway to add up to the Main Character’s journey. One of these aspects is Shun Mizushino’s powers and how he grows these abilities as a “Necromancer.”
It wasn’t so obvious at first, but as fans noticed more and more tidbits of extra information being included early on in the show, they reacted positively to see their Monarch in the making slowly acquiring power to overcome any foes. His abilities look awesome, and the voice acting surely helps kick up the action scenes.
4Better, More Profound Dialogue Scenes
Voice Acting Adds Another Layer Of Emotional Depth
Sound design is an important aspect of the series, and of course, it is impossible to compare a webtoon to an anime in that aspect. But, as things are, it is also true that voice acting adds another layer of emotional depth to every dialogue sequence in the series.
The manhwa might be emotionally deep, and engaging, and Jin-Woo’s struggle is far more relatable than it should be (since he isnot particularly a hero, but an anti-hero) and that is thanks to the incredible voice acting in the series. Kudos to Taito Ban and Aleks Le for giving their all to make sure the Jin-Woo’s most painful moments sound realistic.
5Improved Worldbuilding
The Anime Makes Full Use Of World Background Design
Sometimes, even the best artists are struggling since they need to pursue certain goals (aka Deadlines) and they stick to the importance of transmitting the action in a limited frame. Thus, some of the storytelling potential, particularly that related to world background design and worldbuilding is lost in the process.
But the studios responsible for the anime ofSolo Levelingdecided to go full guns-blazing and overcharged every scene with thousands of little details that make the world feel even more alive than what it seems to be in the manhwa. The purpose of adding more visual context isto enhance the storytelling experience, something that could be difficult to accomplish in a webtoon due to space constraints, but that the anime does magnificently.
6Emotionally Deep Moments
Seeing Jin-Woo’s Struggle Live Somehow Hits Harder
Nothing hits harder than a terrible loss, and even when fans ofSolo Levelingwere prepared to witness some of the cruelest moments of their favorite series, watching it happen live rather than on webtoon slides are far more effective.
Every endearing moment, Jin-Woo’s relationship with his sister and mother, his struggle to keep fightingdespite losing his humanity little by little - all of that and more is transmitted with much more impact in the anime than in the manhwa.
