When asked about the scariest movies they have watched, most, if not all, will probably name a horror film. Among the most terrifying movies areThe ExorcistandThe Conjuring. Some also consider slasher movies likeScreamandThe Texas Chainsaw Massacrescary. However, one of theThunderbolts*stars seems to have their own unique definition of the term “scary” because when asked about the scariest film, they gave a surprising title.

Florence Pugh celebrated her 29th birthday on January 3. To mark the event, the official Instagram account ofThe Late Showshared a clip of her interview when she visited the show to promote her mystery, suspense, horror and thriller movieMidsommarin 2019. “Different strokes for different Orcs!” the caption read. During the interview, they talked about her movieMidsommarand Pugh said she didn’t find the film scary. However, they were watching the characters in emotional distress, which was “horrible to watch.” Host Stephen Colbert then asked Pugh about the scariest movie she watched and she gave a surprising response. “The first thing I ever watched that made me regret going to bed alone wasThe Lord of the Rings,” she replied. Colbert couldn’t believe Pugh’s response and jokingly said, “I go to bed watchingThe Lord of the Rings.” “And that’s where you’re weird,” theWe Live in Timestar replied while laughing. “Just their faces. All of the orcs' faces look like they really need some moisturizer.” Colbert laughed and asked Pugh if that was what scared her the most and she gave an affirmative response. “Yeah. I was like, ‘Oh babe, you’re gonna get some wrinkles,” she added.

The clip received several responses from fans, many of whom shared their thoughts aboutMidsommar. One said the film gave them “nightmares.” Another added that they could not watch the entire movie again. Many said they didn’t findLord of the Ringsscary at all. However, some shared the same sentiment with Pugh regarding the orcs’ appearances. “She’s not wrong! The orcs were a jump scare on first sight,” one commenter wrote. A different online user said they understood Pugh’s point because the film included themes of violence and evil, which could be scary to kids.

Pugh is set to appear inMCU’s upcoming movieThunderbolts*, which is due in four months. In a brief interview at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, she was asked about the massive stunt she did for the film and she gave a straightforward response. “Jumping off the second tallest building in the world. Bye!” she told Variety. Pugh is expected to play a major role in the movie, because her character, Yelena Belova, will lead the ragtag superheroes that include Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr/Ghost Powers (Hannah John-Kamen), Bob Powers/Sentry (Lewis Pullman) and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine Powers (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Pugh previously said thatThunderboltsis not an ideal team since the characters do not play well together. So, fans can expect to see Yelena’s leadership and tons of humor in the antiheroes' complex journey. With a group of misfits together, there’s no doubtThunderbolts*will be packed with action, trouble and fun.
