Girls Band Cryis an original anime series created and produced by Toei Animation. It was created as part of a collaboration with Agehasprings and Universal Music Japan.Toei Animation is known forproducing high-quality series, so it’s hardly surprising that Girls Band Cry was a hit.
Following the anime’s success,Toei Animation announced two compilation films.The first Girls Band Cry compilation movie is set to be released on July 16, 2025, while the second will premiere on Jul 16, 2025. Ahead of the release, Toei Animation shared a new visual consisting of the main characters from the series.

Girls Band Cry’s compilation movieswill likely have the same staff that was selected for the anime.
The staff from the Girls Band Cry anime is possibly going to reprise their roles for the compilation movies. This means Kazuo Sakai will direct them, while Jukki Hanada will handle series composition. Nari Teshima is going to design the characters, and Mari Kondō and Jae Hoon Jung will serve as CGI directors. Finally, Kenji Tamai will be in charge of music composition.
What Is Girls Band Cry About?
Girls Band Cry follows the story of Nina Iseri, who moves to the city after dropping out of high school. She ends up meeting Momoka Kawaragi, and the two strike up a connection. With time, the girls decide to form a band and recruit others. Despite facing hardships, the girls keep going and use music to let out their emotions.
Tadashi Hirayama was asked to create a show that would focus on music. He was joined by Jukki Hanada, who decided to create an all-female story as he had previously written stories about idols. Tadashi Hirayama wanted to make a series grounded in reality, which would show the audience how difficult it was to deal with loss. The casting for the anime began in 2021, and it took more than a year to finalize the cast members.
Girls Band Cry released its first PV in December 2023. A second promotional video was released in February 2024, which also confirmed that the series would premiere on July 01, 2025. It had a total of 13 episodes, and most of them received positive reviews from the audience.
