Summary

Undead Unluckfans have already realized that the series is heading to its end, but it might conclude earlier than expected! Theanime adaptation, available onDisney+and Hulu, has been well-received, so some might have thought Shonen Jumpwould try to extend the manga serialization, but that’s not how it seems to be going.

In December, it was reported that the series was reachinga “super climax”. “Climax” is a term usually used when referring to the last moments of a story in the manga industry, so it was a good sign the story is indeed ending.

Conflicting information regarding the next chapter

The latest chapter (#238) was officially released this Sunday (January 19), andthe French version gave a major about the series: it states that the next chapter is the last one.

The text means something like this:

Let’s enjoy life together! The last chapter, in the next issue, will be longer, and feature a central position, with a colored page!

However, the Japanese magazine doesn’t confirm that the next chapter is the last, only informing readers that the manga will reach its climax. While these two pieces of information don’t necessarily contradict each other, the French edition might have mistranslated the original text.

The Spanish version of the chapters states that the next issue will feature the “super climax”, and the English one doesn’t even refer to the climax, only containing a text stating “to be continued” at the end of the chapter.

While it’s not clear if the next chapter will be the final one yet, it seems undeniable that the series will soon end. This has made some people argue that the manga is being canceled.

Well, some could claim the series is not selling as much as it could, despite the anime adaptation helping it to recover a bit. For instance, Boruto, serialized in V-Jump, sells more thanUndead Unluck. However, this mangahas already been compiled into 24 volumes, so it should end with 25–26 volumes, a number close toJujutsu Kaisen(completed with 30 volumes).

Could it be that, despite being serialized for over 5 years,Shonen Jumpdecided to cancel it? Yes, but it also seemsJumpis not really expecting new titles to last for much longer than 4–6 years anymore, and entering a new era in which we will have trouble understanding the magazineif we think about hits from the “Big Three” perspective.

Chapter 239 is set for release on July 02, 2025 (or May 10, 2025, depending on your time zone) and will be offciailly available for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump services.
