This was a winning formula.Dino Crisisearned mostly positive reviews at the time of its original PS1 launch and sold millions of copies, kickstarting yet another franchise for Capcom. The follow-up,Dino Crisis 2, was also well-received, butDino Crisis 3was panned for its departure from series' norms and poor gameplay. Sadly for fans, theDino Crisisseries has been on iceever since theDino Crisis 3debacle in 2003, prompting other studios to step up and fill the void.

One such developer is TeamKill Media, which has announced a new PS5 exclusive dinosaur horror game calledCode Violet. TeamKill,the developer of PS5 horror gameQuantum Error, has describedCode Violetas a “spiritual successor” to Dino Crisis. The trailer showcases vibes that recall 00s horror games with its tone and art style. The game is about protagonist Violet Sinclair attempting to survive in a futuristic facility that has been overrun with dinosaurs, with players having to contend with velociraptors and even a T-Rex, with the latter shown during a chase sequence where the player is trying to escape in a jeep. In typical survival-horror fashion, players will have the option of fighting the dinosaurs head-on, but sometimes it may be better to avoid or hide from them.

Code Violet is a New Dinosaur Horror Game for PS5

TheCode Violettrailer is light on gameplay, but it does seem to show an over-the-shoulder camera alaResident Evil 4. It also indicates that Violet will have some serious weaponry to defend herself against the dinosaurs that stalk her throughout the game. And while Violet is the main character, there is also a male character who looks a lot likeResident Evil’s Leon S. Kennedy. In any case, horror fans aching for a new dinosaur horror game should note thatCode Violetis launching as a PS5 exclusive in July 2025.

So far, the reaction to theCode Violettrailer has been widely negative. Many fans have criticizedCode Violet’s graphics, which are certainly not on par with other PS5 exclusive games, and others have taken aim at the bizarre story. Fans will have to reserve their final judgment for whenCode Violetlaunches this July. In the meantime, those who missDino Crisisshould note that it’s readily available on PS5 and can even beplayed with a PS Plus Premium subscription.
