Summary

Warhammeris one of the biggest franchises on the planet, with a near monopoly on the tabletop wargaming genre, hundreds of novels spread across four distinct settings, and even aLord Of The Ringslicense. Across all the universes, books, and codices, there are thousands of interesting and fun characters who have been introduced.

Following on from the incredible success ofSpace Marine 2and its awesome cameo from Ultramarines Chapter Master Marneus Calgar, some other belovedWarhammercharacters have yet to grace a video game. Which Warhammer characters truly deserve at least a cameo in a video game? Here are ten who are definitely worth a look.

Stefan kopinski straken

10Iron Hand Straken

Cyborg Eighties Action Hero

Iron Hand Strakenis a far cry from the typical Imperial Commander. Unwilling to send millions of men to their deaths like his peers, Straken instead leads from the front. A true hero of the Astra Militarum, his men worship the ground he walks on.

Coming from the Rambo-inspiredCatachan Jungle Fighters, Straken is no stranger to the realities of The Guard, and regards most of his superiors with disdain. His legendary reputation and effectiveness are all that have saved him from a Commissar’s bolt round. Many of his exploits would putCall Of Dutyprotagonists to shame.

Diana Martinez Kranon warhammer

9Kranon The Relentless

Lord Of The Crimson Slaughter

While Abbadon’s Black Legion are the poster boys for the Chaos Space Marines, there was a time when they were supplanted. At one point, the brutal and cunningKranon The Relentlessand his Crimson Slaughter were inescapable.

Kranon is a character tormented by his past and driven solely by the interests of himself and his warband. Kranon and his men fell to Chaos following a curse that left them haunted by those they had killed unless they were actively killing. Kranon would be an excellent boss, or even playable character, in a video game.

Paul Dainton Farsight warhammer

8Commander Farsight

Rebel With A Cause

Farsight was once the greatest hero of the Tau Empire. A master strategist and battlesuit pilot without equal. Farsight would wage many campaigns against the Imperium, Orks and all kinds of other threats to keep his home safe. But slowly, he began to have doubts about their leaders; the Ethereals.

Breaking with the Tau’s dogmatic almost-worship of the Ethereal Caste, Farsight would lead his troops to establish his own empire. The Farsight Enclaves now stand in defiance of the rest of the galaxy, fighting to maintain their independence. The chance to play as a giant sword wielding Gundam, or to see one in action in theWarhammer 40,000universe would be incredible.

Grimaldus Igor Sid warhammer

7Merek Grimaldus

High Chaplain Of Zealots

Grimaldusis the high chaplain of the Black Templars, a chapter of Space Marines known for their brutality, zealous faith, and their disregard for the Codex Astartes. While the faction has appeared before, we’ve yet to see Merek Grimaldus get some of the spotlight.

The Black Templars are one ofWarhammer 40,000’smost popular factions, and Grimaldus hasone of their best models. He’s also got one of the best stories in the franchise, going from a no-name chaplain to surviving one of the most grueling wars in the setting: the Third War For Armageddon. As a protagonist, he could rival Captain Titus for his impressive feats in that war alone.

Gutrot spume warhammer

6Gutrot Spume

Plague Of The Seas

While Nurgle worshippers have gottena lot of love recently,Gutrot Spumeis still sorely missing fromTotal War Warhammer 3.A pirate warlord who has a bone to pick with Karl Franz and Tzarina Katarin, Gutrot would make for an excellent antagonist or faction leader.

Having almost died at the hands of a rot-kraken and its young, Gutrot would fuse with one of the smaller beasts as a “blessing” from Nurgle. Now a heinous visage of plague with an array of tentacles for a left arm, with his massive naval fleet at his back, Gutrot goes to war wielding a colossal axe and chanting praises to his plague god.

Bastian Carthalos Warhammer

5Bastian Carthalos

The Storm God’s Chosen

Despite the lack of large-scaleWarhammer: Age Of Sigmartitles, a game featuringBastian Carthalosneeds to be made. The last person to reach Azyr before it was sealed during the Age Of Chaos, and even prior to his ascension to themighty Stormcast Eternals, Bastian was a force to be reckoned with.

Now, as the Lord Commander of the Hammers Of Sigmar Stormhost, Bastian is the storm god’s will made manifest. He carries into battle a massive warhammer known as ‘Uskavar, The Sunderer,’ and has the ability to call down lightning to burn away his foes. Seeing that in a video game would be a sight to behold.

Vladimir Krisetskiy Ciaphas Cain Warhammer

4Ciaphas Cain

Lucky Coward Or Imperial Hero

Incredibly lucky and with an inferiority complex that’d make Perturabo blush,Commissar Ciaphas Cainis a true hero of the Imperium. The titular character of his own series of novels, Cain is one ofWarhammer 40,000’smost iconic figures.

With his melta-wielding companion, Jurgen, Cain has fought in dozens of campaigns. He’s dueled Chaos Space Marines in single combat and won, raised a rebellion of slaves against an Ork horde and won, and fought back against a zombie plague and won. All the while, he’s simply acting for the sake of his own survival. Cain would be perfect for a more zany, comedic take on aWarhammervideo game.

Diana martinez cypher warhammer

3Cypher

Gunslinging Fallen Angel

Cypheris one of the most mysterious characters in all of Games Workshop’s IPs. A member of the legendaryDark Angels Legionprior to the Horus Heresy, Cypher’s identity is shrouded in mystery, with endless fan debate about who he actually is.

Following the brief but destructive civil war among the Dark Angels, the legion, and later its descendant chapters, were desperate to hide their shameful kin from the rest of the galaxy; Cypher most of all. Coalescing these “Fallen Angels” wherever he goes, he seemingly hinders as much as helps the Imperium, even aiding Guilliman to reach Terra. He’d be brilliant for any branching narrative game, letting players choose to trust the Fallen Angel or not.

Blood reaver jon sullivan warhammer

2Decimus

Prophet Of The Night

A plot thread long abandoned byWarhammer 40,000, it would be interesting to see theNight Lords Omnibusget a sequel or reference in aWarhammervideo game.Decimusis the prophet of the incrediblyunderappreciated Night Lordsand the direct descendant of Talos Valcoran through his geneseed.

Decimus is, unlike his predecessor, able to manage the futuresight. While Talos would be sent into a seizure when having a vision, Decimus can predict the future and remain calm. There is potential for him to reunite the Night Lords legion from their shattered warbands and squabbling politics. Should he do so, the Imperium at large should tremble.

Johan grenier warhammer The-Silent-King-2

An Ancient Eldritch Menace

Allegiance: Necrons.

Szarekh, or The Silent King, is to the Necrons what the Emperor is to Humanity. It was Szarekh who made the fateful deal with the god-like C’tan that created the Necrons, dooming his people to servitude.

Szarekh, ashamed of his actions, would lead his people into a reality-splitting revolt before exiling himself to the void between galaxies. Now he has returned and has begun to createthe Pariah Nexuses, engines that can split the warp from reality. Szarekh is a force to be reckoned with, and to see his reality-bending technology in a game would be a treat forWarhammerfans.
