Summary
Upon its release,Ghost of Tsushimagarnered critical acclaim and a huge fan base for itsincredible stealth gameplay underpinned by a storyabout a conflicted hero looking to reclaim his homeland from an invading tyrant. The game tells the story of Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior who, following the Mongol invasion, learns to fight from the shadows and eliminate enemies silently, creating a conflict between the honor of a samurai warrior and doing what it takes to reclaim Tsushima from the Mongol invaders.
Ghost of Tsushimafeatured excellent stealth gameplay, incredible combat, and a beautiful open world to explore with a minimalist HUD, with players following the wind to reach their objectives. It’s no surprise, given the game’s critical and commercial success, that Sucker Punch productions got to work on a sequel for the game quickly, withGhost of Yoteiset for a 2025 release. So, with the sequel on the horizon, what improvements canGhost of Yoteimake fromGhost of Tsushima?

6Avoiding The Moral Dilemma Of Being A Ghost
Jin’s Conflict Of Ideals Doesn’t Need Running Back
Ghost of Yoteiis set to take place in a different era of Japanese history with Atsu being the new protagonist.InGhost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai was taughtto be an honorable samurai from a young age and his use of stealth tactics provides a dilemma for the protagonist and those around him, not wanting to dishonor the Sakai clan.
This was central to the plot ofGhost of Tsushima, asJin honed his skills by striking from the shadows to take down the Mongols. As this plot point has been explored already, it’d be wise forGhost of Yotei, to avoid the inner conflict between being a samurai and a ghost. An interesting way this could be changed is to invert it, with Atsu being a stealth-focused protagonist who learns how to fight throughout the course of the game. One thing that is certain is that avoiding the same plot dilemma would allowGhost of Yoteito improve onGhost of Tsushima.
5More Variety In Open-World Encounters
More Killer Less Filler In The Open World
WhenGhost of Tsushimawas released, the gameplay and visuals had many players blown away and wanting toexplore the isle of Tsushima to find everythingthe game had to offer. The only issue in this regard is the lack of variety in the open world.
This can be improved byGhost of Yoteioffering by making the open-world activities feel less repetitive, something that was offered inGhost of Tsushima’sDLC on Iki Island. However, this would need to be balanced to avoid the game feeling bloated, meaning the improvement would be not to add extra side objectives to extend the runtime but to vary themission types and collectibles to improve onGhost of Tsushima.
4More Weapon Types
Ghost of Tsushima’senemies were given a vast arsenal of weapons to attack Jin, with players having to rely on different stances to take down enemies as efficiently as possible. The addition of different weapon typesfor Atsu to use inGhost Of Yoteicould provide a massive improvement in gameplay.
With enemies using shields, spears, and daggersin their attempts to take out Jin, allowing Atsu to use these options inGhost of Yoteiwould allow players additional choice in how to tackleGhost of Yotei. This increased variety would improve the already stellar gameplay fromGhost of TsushimainGhost of Yotei.
3Hiding Bodies
With the focus on stealth inGhost of Tsushima,an omission that confused many players was the ability to move bodies after the players eliminated them. A common feature in many stealth action games, players will be forced to cover their tracks when aiming to complete a stealth playthrough.
This also incorporates improvements to the enemy AI, as once a body is spotted inGhost of Yotei, the player will have to operate fast to avoid raising the alarm. If the option to hide bodies is in the game, this would add a new dimension to stealth gameplay, and improve onGhost of Tsushima.
2Adding An Online PvP Mode
Having Samurai Battles Between Friends Could Make An Interesting Addition
When the DLC forGhost of Tsushimaintroduceda co-op campaign for players to tackle with up to three friends, players were delighted by the option to jump back into the amazing gameplay with a team of samurai warriors at their side.
This made an excellent addition to the game but could be expanded on inGhost of Yoteiby adding a PvP multiplayer mode. The skills learned in single-player can be adapted to add a whole new dimension by adding multiplayer combat, with teams aiming to take each other on in samurai battles, similar to what Ubisoft’sFor Honorattempted in 2016. Giving players another game mode to dive into could allowGhost of Yoteito improve onGhost of Tsushima.
1Increase The Challenge Of Stealth
Ghost Of Tsushima’s Stealth System Could Be Made More Challenging
Ghost of Tsushimahas an incredible combat system, and the stealth system in the game works well to provide an alternative to just hacking and slashing through enemies. However, for many players, the stealth mechanics present in the game are far too easy.
Once players have initially learned how to master stealth mechanics, it’s easy to eliminate enemy bases from the shadows. By improving the enemy AI and making them more intelligent, perhaps learning from how players choose to take down bases throughout the game, would add an extra challenge and force players to hone their skills to become a master of stealth. Increasing the difficulty of the stealth scenarios inGhost of Yoteiwould make a huge improvement onGhost of Tsushima.
