What Is The Plot Of Nosferatu?

Nosferatuis set in the early Nineteenth century, like many classic Gothic tales, and tells the tale ofa young woman named Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp)who, as a young woman, unintentionally summons a supernatural creature, pledging herself to him for eternity. Later, her husband Thomas (Nicholas Hoult) sets out on a trip to Transylvania, tasked with selling a mysterious castle owned by Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). Ellen is left with wealthy friends of her husband, Friedrich Harding and his wife Anna (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emma Corrin), but feels increasingly vulnerable due to horrific visions. Meanwhile, Thomas finds himself in terrifying danger at the hands of Orlok in Transylvania. Soon it seems as though an evil force is taking control of their lives.

The plot ofNosferatuis very similar to another popular gothic story,Dracula. That is because the original silent film,Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, released in 1922, was itself an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. Fans of the originalDracula, or the 1922 silent film will have some idea of what to expect fromNosferatu. Despite this, it’s safe to say Robert Eggers has made the film his own, withLily-Rose Depp commenting at the film’s premiere that the director’s choice to center Ellen’s narrative leads to a ‘fresh take’ on the already well-known story.
