Summary
Plunderstotrm has officially sailed back intoWorld of Warcraft, bringing new abilities, features, and quality-of-life improvements to the battle royale game mode. Though it does not have an official end date yet, fans will likely be able to plunder their way across this returningWorld of Warcraftgame mode for at least a month.
World of Warcraftrecently announced that Plunderstorm, the pirate-themed battle royale where 60 people drop into the Arathi Highlands to battle for supremacy and loot, was returning on January 14. After a brief delay,Plunderstorm has officially gone live inWorld of Warcraftonce again, bringing the popular PvP battle back to players as they wait for Patch 11.1.

However, the second run ofPlunderstorm has some new featuresWorld of Warcraftfans should be aware of. The battlefield itself has been revamped with several new points of interest and mobs, with all non-elite enemies now respawning after a short time, providing endless sources of plunder until the Storm swallows them. There are also horses that spawn around the map, giving players a way to quickly traverse the battlefield and find chests, elites, and opponents. What’s more, the in-game map now shows the threat levels of each zone based on how frequently fights take place there, and even lets fans choose where they want to be dropped at the start of a game.
There are several new spells players can collect and upgrade in this run of Plunderstorm as well. For offensive spells, Aura of Zealotry provides a passive speed buff to the character and their team, and allows them to cast Consecrate to create an area to damage enemies and buff allies, while Celestial Barrage is a long, chargeable line attack. For utility, Call Galefeather lets fans summon an eagle to knock back enemies from an area for a short time, while Void Tear teleports the user to a marked point, damaging and slowing enemies in the process. Cooldown adjustments for some existing spells, and a new UI to help swap and pick up abilities, help to keep things fresh.
There is also now a Plunderstorm Practice Lobby where players can try out abilities, fix their keybindings and transmogs, and socialize with others. Fans can queue for games or access the Plunderstore – the new spot wherePlunderstorm rewards are obtained inWorld of Warcraft– from the Practice Lobby, the login screen, and even while in retailWoWitself via the PvP interface.
Strangely enough, the three-person Trios mode is nowhere to be found in this run of the event. It remains to be seen exactly whyWorld of Warcraftdidn’t keep Trios in Plunderstorm, but hopefully, Blizzard will re-add it sometime before the game mode weighs anchor once again.
