Summary
World of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery has begun the seventh and final phase of the experimental servers, featuring the Scourge Invasions world event and the new Karazhan Crypts dungeon. These activities are available inWorld of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery right now, with the Naxxramas raid opening up on February 6.
Season of Discovery isWorld of Warcraft Classic’s ongoing experiment featuring class-altering Rune engravings and brand-new quests, dungeons, and raid bosses.World of Warcraftrecently revealed thatSeason of Discovery Phase 7– the final major update of the experimental servers – would be arriving with the weekly maintenance on January 28.

Now that the servers are coming back online after said downtime,World of Warcrafthas revealed the full patch notes to prepare players for the major update. The Scourge has begun large-scale invasions of many zones, providing fans the chance to fight back against the undead. Defeating enough minions spawns a Shade of Doom that damages the Necropolis in the zone when slain. After destroying the Necropolis, the invasion in that zone ends, rewarding players with Necrotic Runes that are used to purchase rewards like the Sanctified Undead Slaying sets. Additionally, several older dungeons have new bosses and loot inspired by this event, including Stratholme’s Main Entrance, Scholomance, and the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard.
The Karazhan Crypts are a uniquedungeon unlike any other inWorld of Warcraft. Designed after old-school dungeon crawls, characters can only target allies and enemies while they are within the radius of a light source, such as a torch the party can carry. The non-linear dungeon has no “final boss,” and is full of puzzles, secrets, and brutal encounters that will challenge even the most well-geared players.
Lastly, Naxxramas – the last raid in VanillaWorld of Warcraft– is finally coming to Season of Discovery on February 6. Like many other raids in Season of Discovery, Naxxramas can be cleared with between 20 to 40 characters, and will have special challenge modes that can be activated via special pylons at the entrance. With new mechanics and drastically increased stats, few fans will be able to handle this mode initially, but by using the Seal of Dawn item, players can get a buff that scales based on how many Sanctified items they have equipped. What’s more, fans can expect a “few special surprises” if they can reach Kel’thuzad in his empowered state, which could include a secret boss like theMolten Core fromWoW ClassicSeason of Discovery Phase 4.
ThoughSeason of Discovery Phase 7 has been called the “final phase” of theWoWexperiment, there may be a few more secrets to find before it is over. Players will have to wait and see whatWorld of Warcraft Classichas in store for Season of Discovery now that its end is drawing near.
World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 7 Patch Notes – July 15, 2025
Scourge Invasions
The Scourge Invasion event will begin after the 1.15.6 patch goes live with normal patch maintenance in each region. In Season of Discovery, the Scourge Invasion event will include differences from previous iterations of WoW Classic.
In addition to the outdoor Scourge Invasion activities, the following dungeons also have an additional boss that can appear and drop new loot that is unique to the Scourge Invasion event:
Karazhan Crypts
New to Season of Discovery, the foreboding tombs of Karazhan Crypts is available as a five-player dungeon, with a 24-hour lockout, in Deadwind Pass.
Developers’ notes: This content is unique among small group content in WoW Classic, and some players may find their expectations of how dungeons work in World of Warcraft to be challenged by the structure and pace of the dungeon. It’s inspired by old-school tabletop game dungeon crawls and early first-person roleplaying computer games, and much like many things in Season of Discovery, it’s somewhat experimental.
The remainder of this section of the patch notes are spoilers for Karazhan Crypts. If you wish to maintain the surprise of discovering the dungeon’s secrets, skip reading this section!
Some players may be more comfortable waiting for others to begin to understand the dungeon and emerge to share what they have discovered, before attempting to tackle this content.
Naxxramas
The dread citadel, Naxxramas is coming to Season of Discovery on July 06, 2025.Naxxramas is now tuned for 20 players, and the zone will allow up to 40 players into the raid.
