Does Marvel Studios Have an Actress in Mind to Play Storm in the X-Men MCU Reboot?

Notable scooperMyTimeToShineHelloclaimsThe Bearstar Ayo Edebiri is being considered to play Storm in the X-Men MCU reboot.Edebiri was originally cast inThunderboltsin a then-undisclosed role, which has since been revealed to be Mel, the assistant to Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. However, afterThunderbolts production was delayed due to the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes, Edebirir had to drop out. The character Mel was recast with Geraldine Viswanathan.

Based on the replies to MyTimeToShineHello’s post, fans are not enthused by the idea of Edebiri playing Storm. Most fans suggested otheractors who could play Storm in the X-Men MCU reboot, including DeWanda Wise, Jodie Turner-Smith, Janelle Monáe, or Keke Palmer. While most acknowledged that Edebiri is a talented actor, many don’t see her as the right fit for Storm, whom fans believe needs to be regal and imposing. However, user@maddie2264argued Edebiri could pull off playing Storm, writing, “People saying she needs the right aura but a good actor can portray that. ofc she’s been in more lighthearted roles but she’s a very talented actor and definitely could pull it off. Especially ifthey’ree going for a younger cast.”

Of course, MyTimeToShineHello only said Marvel Studios is considering Edebiri for the role. With claims thatWickedstar Cynthia Erivo is also eyed to play Storm, Marvel Studios is likely considering many people to play the character and keeping its option open.Avengers: Secret Warsis only slated to release in theaters in 2027, so unless the new Storm debuts before then, there’s still time to cast the character and no need to commit to anyone right now.

As indicated by responses to both casting rumors, fans have strong opinions about who should (or shouldn’t play Storm). While Edebiri may not be the first actor to come to mind when most fans think of Storm, she’s proven her talent and Marvel Studios' casting decisions have almost always been on point. Besides, there are plenty of examples of actors who were cast in comic book roles that fans didn’t approve of only for the performer in question to prove them all wrong. Perhaps Edebiri could be one of them.
