Summary
Starfieldcould reach more consoles in the future, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has suggested. This possibility aligns with what the Xbox boss has recently been saying about not justStarfieldbut the company’s overall gaming platform strategy.
Bethesda’s space-faring RPG was initially released for the Xbox Series X/S and PC in early September 2023. Five months later, Spencer announced that some ofMicrosoft’s first-party games were being ported to third-party consoles. This multi-platform publishing push started withPentiment,Hi-Fi Rush,Grounded, andSea of Thieves. A few other Microsoft titles, such asIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, were later confirmed to be coming to non-Xbox consoles as well.

AlthoughStarfieldremains an Xbox console exclusiveas of early 2025, that may not be the case for much longer. That’s according to Spencer himself, who suggested as much during a mid-January interview with freelance reporter Destin Legarie. Asked about whether he can confirm that “Starfieldis staying put for the time being,” the Microsoft Gaming CEO responded negatively. Elaborating on that point, Spencer reiterated his November 2024 statement that Microsoft has “no red lines” when considering which first-party games could potentially be ported to non-Xbox consoles.
PS5 Version of Starfield Has Long Been Rumored
Be that as it may, Spencer hasn’t outright confirmed that Bethesda’s galaxy-hopping RPG is indeed coming to more platforms.Rumors about a PS5 version ofStarfieldhave been circulating online ever since Microsoft first announced its multi-platform game publishing foray, but nothing has materialized so far. Sony’s current-gen console remains the most likely platform to receiveStarfieldin the future, particularly since Bethesda had been developing a PS5 port of the game prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of its parent company, ZeniMax Media, in March 2021.
Starfield Seems Less Likely to Ever Land on the Switch 2
Although the newly announced Switch 2 is expected to be much more powerful than its predecessor, it will likely still fall short of the PS5’s processing capabilities, reducing the likelihood of it ever receivingStarfield. However, Xbox Game Pass leaker eXtas1s has recently claimed that aSwitch 2 version ofStarfieldcould still happen.
Regarding Bethesda’s other projects,Indiana Jones and the Great Circlehas already been confirmed as coming to the PS5 in spring 2025. Meanwhile, the rumored Unreal Engine 5 remake ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, reportedly being developed by Virtuos, is also expected to launch on the PS5, though likely not on day one. Since early 2024, Microsoft has repeatedly stated that its multi-platform publishing push is an attempt to get ahead of market trends, claiming that the overall gaming industry is now moving away from platform exclusives.
