While the Hylian Shield is usually metallic, oneZeldafan gave Link’s shield a different appearance. A Reddit user named JasperHams posted their prop replica of the Hylian Shield on the r/Zelda subreddit. Using materials like cast polyethylene resin, JasperHams made their Hylian Shield take on the appearance of a wooden shield with a steel border. The front of the shield bore the crest of Hyrule, with the Triforce’s image on the top. The Hylian Shield was also given a few scratches to give it the appearance of battle damage, including a chip in the middle. On the backside, the Hylian Shield has a strap and a handle grip, similar to how Link wieldsthe Hylian Shield inTears of the Kingdom. The Hylian Shield was paired with a replica of the Master Sword in its sheath, similar to the logo on the cover ofOcarina of Time.

Although someZeldafan artists have made differentversions of the Hylian Shield using materials like stained glass, JasperHams' Hylian Shield was made to appear lightweight enough to use in combat. Although the core of the Hylian Shield is usually a steel plate, JasperHams stated the hardwood appearance would still make it effective against flaming arrows. Other Zelda fans complimented JasperHams for their attention to detail.
When combined with the Master Sword, the Hylian Shield allows Link to be one of thebest melee combatants in Nintendo’s history. It remains to be seen when the iconic Hylian Shield will return to theLegend of Zeldafranchise.
